For the first time all season, a quarterback not named Robert Griffin III took the field as the starter for the Washington Redskins today for their game vs. the Cleveland Browns.

In his place, fellow rookie Kirk Cousins got his first-career start, as Griffin III recovers from a knee injury suffered late in last Sunday’s 31-28 overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

And, after the first quarter, the Redskins and Browns are knotted at seven apiece.

Here’s some key plays and notes from each drive in the quarter:

The Redskins received the opening kickoff, which was downed in the back of the end zone by Niles Paul.

1st and 10 <20: Cousins hands off to running back Alfred Morris, who gets five yards on the carry.
2nd and 10 <20: (After false start) Morris runs the ball for five yards.
3rd and 5 <25: Cousins, in the shotgun with Evan Royster to his left, throws incomplete to Royster.
Punt: Sav Rocca’s kick goes 50 yards; block in the back called on the Browns/

1st and 10 >20: Quarterback Brandon Weeden’s pass is complete to tight end Benjamin Watson for eight yards.
2nd and 2 >28: Watson hands off to running back Trent Richardson, who gets four yards on the run and the first down.
2nd and 10 >32: Richardson breaks free for 14 yards. He found a small hole and was able to cut upfield.
1st and 10 >46: Weeden has wide receiver Josh Gordon wide open along the sideline, but overthrows him. File that one away.
2nd and 10 >46: Richardson stuffed for no gain.
3rd and 15 >41: (After false start) Weeden is flushed from the pocket and has to run to his left before being forced out of bounds nine yards away.
Punt: Reggie Hodges’ 40-yard punt is returned 13 yards by rookie Richard Crawford to the Washington 23-yard line. Crawford had a solid return game last week vs. the Ravens, including his 64-yard return that set up the game-winning field goal in overtime.

1st and 10 <23: Cousins’ pass intended for Pierre Garcon is incomplete. Good pass coverage on the play.
2nd and 10 <23: Morris can’t get anywhere on the stretch run to his right. No gain.
3rd and 10 <23: Cousins’ pass is intercepted by cornerback T.J. Ward, who takes the ball all the way to the Washington six-yard line before he was taken down by Cousins. The ball was tipped by cornerback Sheldon Brown, and was intended for Garcon. It appeared as though Cousins tried to force the ball into a very tight window that just wasn’t open.

1st and Goal <6: Six-yard touchdown run by Richardson. He got piled on at the three-yard line and just kept chugging his way into the end zone. It’s his 10th rushing touchdown of the season, surpassing NFL legend Jim Brown for the Browns’ rookie record for rushing touchdowns.Extra point: Phil Dawson’s kick is good.

8:41: Browns 7, Redskins 0Drive summary: One play, six yards, nine seconds.

Kickoff: Goes through the back of the end zone for a touchback.

1st and 10 <20: Morris is stuffed for no gain.
2nd and 10 <20: Cousins completes his first pass, a four-yarder to Morris.
3rd and 6 <24: Cousins is sacked by defensive lineman Jabaal Sheard for a loss of nine yards. He really had no chance to get off any kind of play before Sheard got right by right tackle Tyler Polumbus and into Cousins’ grill.
Punt: Rocca’s 57-yard punt is returned 10 yards by Joshua Cribbs to the Cleveland 38-yard line.

1st and 15 >43: (After false start) Weeden is pressured by safety Reed Doughty and is able to squeeze a pass for two yards to Jordan Cameron.
3rd and 11 >37: Weeden’s pass is complete to Greg Little for five yards. The penalty being followed up by that pressure by the Redskins’ defense on the ensuing play was key for this third-and-out.
Punt: Hodges’ punt bounces out of the back of the end zone for a touchback.

1st and 10 <20: Toss play to Alfred Morris goes for two yards. Morris got a little room running to his left this time.
2nd and 8 <22: Cousins tried to go deep to Garcon, but he gets tripped up by his defender as the ball hits the turf.
3rd and 8 <22: Cousins’ pass to Royster goes right through the running back’s hands. He might’ve heard footsteps there, and it’s not likely that he would’ve had the first down anyway.
Punt: Rocca’s kick goes 53 yards and is fair caught at the Cleveland 25-yard line.

1st and 10 >25: Richardson evades a couple tackles, but only gets one yard.
2nd and 9 >26: Weeden finds Richardson in the flats but he’s pursued quickly by London Fletcher for a loss of six yards. Great play by the linebacker.
3rd and 15 >26: Weeden tries to find Mohamed Massaquoi down the sideline, but he’s overthrown.
Punt: Hodges misfires on his punt and it only goes 34 yards before heading out of bounds.

1st and 10 <46: Cousins rolls out and finds Leonard Hankerson over the top for a 54-yard touchdown. It was a very well-placed ball and a nice catch by the receiver, who had a couple diving defenders temporarily blocking his vision.
Extra point: Kai Forbath’s kick is good.

2:16: Redskins 7, Browns 7
Drive summary: One play, 54 yards, 10 seconds.

Kickoff: Returned 25 yards by Cribbs before he’s rocked by Lorenzo Alexander.

1st and 10 >23: Weeden’s pass intended for Gordon is tipped by outside linebacker Rob Jackson.
2nd and 10 >23: Weeden finds Richardson, but another nice play by Jackson ensures he only gets one yard. Jackson has done a great job stepping in for the injured Brian Orakpo this season.
3rd and 9 >24: Weeden finds Gordon for 10 yards and the first down.
1st and 10 >34: Richardson runs for one yard before he’s corralled by outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.
3rd and 9 >35: Weeden’s pass is complete to Alex Smith, who gets seven yards to end the quarter.

The defense is playing well the entire half then falls apart on the last drive of the half? Really? WTF!
