Cousins Wowed By Text From Kurt Warner

Kirk Cousins shined in his first-career start earlier today against the Cleveland Browns, so it’s no surprise that the rookie got some much deserved praise from friends, family, teammates and fans alike.

But when one of Cousins’ childhood heroes reached out to him after the game, the rookie was truly in awe.

Two time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion quarterback Kurt Warner sent Cousins a congratulatory text after he led his team to its 38-21 win over the Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Cousins completed 26-of-37 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in relief of fellow rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, who is nursing a sprained LCL in his right knee.

Cousins said the text from Warner congratulated him on a good game and told him to let him know if he ever needed anything throughout his career. The Michigan State product said he grew up watching and studying the career of Warner, who won league MVP in 1999 and 2001 and won Super Bowl XXXIV with the St. Louis Rams.

“I’ve always respected him as a player and a man,” Cousins said.

For a second straight week, Cousins said he was bombarded by text messages from other friends and family members after helping lead the Redskins to a victory. Last week, he said he had received 140 messages immediately after his touchdown and two-point conversion against the Baltimore Ravens tied the game at the end of the fourth quarter. The Redskins went on to win 31-28 in overtime.

Though Cousins said he’d try to catch up with everybody reaching out to him after the season, you can bet he immediately responded to Warner’s text.

Jingle Bells, Manning smells, the Giants laid an egg. The Skins QB broke his wheel but the backup led the way, hey!

Not over confident at all. I said at the beginning of the Season that this year felt different. This young TEAM is coming together and the Veterans are helping them find their way. Patience and hard work is paying off and will for years to come!
