NFL Films: Redskins-Browns Preview

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 15, 2012 – 11:48 am

The Washington Redskins on Sunday travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Cleveland Browns Stadium is an open-concept stadium with a natural-grass playing surface. The stadium seats 73,200.

The Redskins on Sunday are looking to extend their season-high winning streak to five games. The first three wins came against NFC East opponents (Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants) and the last win came against the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens.

Washington enters the game at 7-6 following their 31-28 overtime victory over the Ravens last Sunday at FedExField. The Redskins were trailing 28-20 in the final minutes of the game before backup quarterback Kirk Cousins – relieving an injured Robert Griffin III – completed a touchdown pass to Pierre Garçon and then tied the game in the final seconds by running into the end zone for a two-point conversion. Rookie Richard Crawford had a 64-yard punt return in overtime that set up kicker Kai Forbath’s 34-yard field goal in overtime.

Griffin III completed 15-of-26 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown to receiver Joshua Morgan. Rookie running back Alfred Morris ran 23 times for 122 yards and a touchdown, while Garçon caught five passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. The Washington defense was led by middle linebacker Perry Riley’s game-best 15 tackles.

The Browns enter Sunday’s game at 5-8 after their 30-7 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Browns gave up an 80-yard touchdown run to Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles on the first play of the game before scoring 30 unanswered points to get the victory. Browns running back Brandon Weeden completed 17-of-30 passes for 217 yards, while running backs Montario Hardesty and Trenton Richardson combined for 94 rushing yards. Richardson had two rushing touchdowns. The Cleveland defense was led by defensive end Frostee Rucker’s team-high-tying seven tackles, and he also had a sack – his fourth of the season.

The Redskins-Browns game will be televised by Fox.

On radio, the game will be broadcast locally on ESPN 980 and the Redskins Radio Network.  Larry Michael calls the play-by-play with former Redskins and Hall of Famers Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff adding color commentary.  Former Redskin Rick ‘Doc’ Walker reports from the sidelines.
