Week 15 Power Rankings Roundup

One week after the Redskins were ranked 14th in all seven of the Power Rankings organizations listed below, the team is making big strides up the lists — except in one case (see below).

The Redskins — who are riding a four-game winning streak heading into Sunday’s game at the Cleveland Browns — are slowly creeping towards the Top 10 in nearly every list, where they are averaging out as the 12th-ranked team in the NFL.

Some organizations understandably are cautious about the Redskins this week, as they are awaiting to see if injured quarterback Robert Griffin III (knee) will be ready to go against the Browns, or if backup Kirk Cousins will get his first-career start.

Here’s where the Redskins fall with this week’s Power Rankings Roundup:

The Redskins moved up three spots to 11th in this week’s AP Pro 32 poll:

CBSSports.com — which has bumped the Redskins up 12 spots the last three weeks — mysteriously pushed them down a spot to No. 15 overall this week. A four-game winning streak — no matter what the situation at quarterback for the upcoming game — should never merit a decrease. I understand being concerned about Griffin III’s knee, but when you say “Kirk Cousins showed well in relief,” you still move them down — and have the Cowboys ranked three spots above them?:

The Redskins continue their slow climb up the ESPN.com power rankings. This week the Redskins moved up two spots to No. 12:

ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano dug further into the ESPN.com rankings:

FoxSports.com’s Brian Billick moved the Redskins up three spots to No. 11 overall:

NFL.com analyst Elliot Harrison is apparently waiting to see who’s under center for the Redskins on Sunday before giving them any credit and pushing them up from their No. 14 spot a week ago. They’re again at No. 14 this week:

ProFootballTalk.com/NBC this week moved the Redskins up to their highest spot of any of the organizations this week, all the way to No. 10:

Sports Illustrated and columnist Don Banks moved the Redskins up three spots to No. 11, and also were encouraged by the news about Griffin III’s knee:

Hello, member of Redskins Nation. I wanted to share with you something I’ve recently come across that has touched me deeply and compelled me to write you today.

On one of the many Redskins Message Boards (CPND), this was posted:

Skins marching band under the stadium after the Minnesota game. Celebratory as hell and HYPE!!! HTTR!!!

After watching the video, I followed the comments. This one stood out and summarizes my point (and many others’ too) very nicely…

I believe they are going to have incorporate this somehow into the stadium experience in a formal kind of way… because so many of the fans just love this and it is authentic both to DC and to Native Americans who have always used drums and chants to get people fired up and to unify the tribe.

I honestly think if they did this during the TV timeouts it would help the team, unify the fans, enhance the stadium experience and probably freak out the visiting team a little bit. It would give the team a true home field advantage and make people want to go to the games more. I can just imagine coming back from a commercial break with the fans all standing and rowdy still chanting “RG3 or Aww DC” or whatever. I could also hear Phil Sims or Troy Aikman talk about how they have never seen anything quite like it before….

The wave is pretty much “has been” and the Terrible Towels are like 25 years old; why can’t this be the next big thing, we could ride this right into the playoffs and keep it going next year when we fight for home field throughout. It could make us one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

I hear now this postgame performance is still being done, even as an “Rrrr… G3” remix. Every one of the Redskins fans I’ve shown this too has loved it and agrees. We need to bring this to the forefront of our stadium experience and make it a part of our Redskins culture: Hail to the Redskins AND the Skins Marching Band’s Gogo stylings.

Gogo is unique to the East Coast (largely the DC/Virgina area) and has roots in Native American, tribal percussion. It seems a perfect fit for our beloved team and should be indoctrinated as a new part of our Team/Fanbase persona. Other teams have Who Let the Dogs Out, or Eye of the Tiger, or any other dated stadium anthem out there. We could have our own, and it would be new and fresh and unique to us.

I plan to pursue this as far as I can within the organization, and I’d appreciate your help to. Let’s get the word out. We all agree, it’s a new day in D.C. We should adopt this as a new Redskins tradition to further solidify that notion. I’ll be sending this to anyone and everyone I can. I encourage you to do the same.

Thanks for your time and HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

    Sincerely,
    J.Curtis Mace

I think Cousins would be just as difficult to plan for as RG3 at this point. He has shown moments of greatness when given the opportunity, and Morris is websters new definition of “Stud.” I personally would like to see RG3 on the bench for this game, and only play if Cousins lets it get away from him.

J.Curtis Mace, how can we help you to persue with the marching band, cranking it up?
