Kai Forbath needs your help.
The Washington Redskins kicker is trying to eclipse 15,000 Twitter followers, and he’s willing to reward a lucky fan for their troubles.
Forbath said he will sign and send the first cleat he ever used with the Redskins this season (see photo above) to the first person to correctly answer a trivia question once he reaches the 15,000-follower plateau.
The first-year kicker has a way to go — he’s currently around 8,500 followers — but I’m willing to bet that, with continued success on the field, Forbath will see that number increase as quickly as he’s hoping.
Forbath has shined this season for the Redskins since signing with the team Oct. 9, making all 14 of his field goals and all 22 of his extra-point attempts.
Whoever receives the cleat could own a piece of history, considering Forbath just needs to make his next two field-goal attempts to tie the NFL record for consecutive field goals made (16) to start a career. I mean, honestly, the Pro Football Hall of Fame would probably be happy to have that cleat on display.
The cleat is also a painful reminder of Forbath’s odd and painful — but successful — approach to kicking. According to NFL.com, Forbath usually wears a size 10.5 cleat or shoe, but he wears a size 7.5 soccer cleat on his right, kicking foot during practices and games.
“The surface it creates when you squeeze [your foot into the cleat], it’s a real hard surface which obviously makes the pop on the ball a lot stronger,” Forbath told Sports Evolution Radio. “You know, you’re trying to get every yard you can get. People have been doing it for a long time now. It’s horrible. I shave the inside cleats off, so my foot is slanted as I walk on it too. When I look down, I still can’t believe how it fits in there.”
My right foot tenses up just hearing him explain that.
