Two ‘Skins Added To All-NFC East Team

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 13, 2012 – 9:45 am

Chris Chester

A season-high-tying eight Washington Redskins players appear on this week’s version of ESPN.com Dan Graziano’s All-NFC East Team.

And, judging by Graziano’s picks, the Redskins’ offensive front is doing pretty well for itself.

Additions to this week’s list from last week’s All-NFC East Team — which is based on an entire season’s body of work and is not a week-by-week evaluation — include right guard Chris Chester and punter Sav Rocca.

Here’s the entire list of Redskins representatives:

- Quarterback: Robert Griffin III
Running back: Alfred Morris
Tackle: Trent Williams
Center: Will Montgomery
Guard: Chris Chester
Defensive tackle: Barry Cofield
Middle linebacker: Perry Riley
Punter: Sav Rocca

- This is the first time since Nov. 1 that the Redskins have eight players on Graziano’s All-NFC East Team. On that list was Griffin III, Morris, Williams, Montgomery, Chester, Rocca and cornerback Josh Wilson and punt returner Brandon Banks.

- Graziano said that Wilson could’ve made this week’s list, too; but he said he needs to see a little more consistency first.

- Speaking of consistency, Graziano said that’s what earned Chester his spot this week. Chester replaces New York Giants guard Chris Snee, who, according to Graziano, “has the track record,” but hasn’t been quite as good as Chester this season.

- And, again, I’ll plea for Redskins fullback Darrel Young to make this weekly list. Graziano, again, gives his rational explanation why he goes with Giants fullback Henry Hynoski each week:

“And no, Redskins fans, I’m not “ignoring” Darrel Young at fullback. For the millionth time, both Young and Hynoski are having excellent seasons. It’s a tough call, every week. But Hynoski’s on the field more, and while he doesn’t catch or carry the ball once or twice a week like Young does, he’s been the slightly better blocker. And that’s the important part of their jobs. I’d love to see both guys go to the Pro Bowl. I can’t put them both on this team, though. Maybe if one of them learned to play cornerback. There are spots open there.”

- Graziano also said he considered putting Redskins kicker Kai Forbath on this week’s list. Forbath is a perfect 14-for-14 for Washington this season, but happens to be in a division crowded with quality kickers. Because Forbath came in so late in the season, he doesn’t quite have as many attempts as his counterparts, which, according to Graziano, keeps him off the All-NFC East Team for now.

- And, Graziano doesn’t say it, but I’m sure if rookie Richard Crawford can keep returning punts like he did last Sunday against Baltimore — with returns of 20, 16 and 64 yards — he’ll have a good shot at overtaking Dallas Cowboys returner Dwayne Harris on this list. Nobody’s returning kickoffs better right now than the Giants David Wilson, so punt returner might be a spot that the Redskins can claim with a little more work.

CHIME IN: What do YOU think of this week’s All-NFC East Team, according to Graziano? Feel free to comment below.
