Battle Of The Beltways Is Ours Two-Fold

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 9, 2012 – 11:38 pm

Battle of the Beltways_final

Congratulations, Redskins fans.

You sat through that exciting game today vs. the Baltimore Ravens and, though your fingernails are assuredly much shorter than they were at halftime, your team pulled out the overtime victory.

But that wasn’t the only win today for Redskins fans, who pummeled the Ravens in today’s “Battle of the Beltways” social media showdown.

You’ve been hashtagging #HTTR like crazy since late last week, and we stomped on the Ravens by a final tally of 73 percent to their 27 percent.

Very well done, Redskins fans.

Redskins React To Win On Twitter

In case you haven’t heard by now, the Washington Redskins today extended their winning streak to four games with a 31-28, overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens at FedExField.

The Redskins (7-6) made a furious comeback with little time remaining in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Down eight and with starting quarterback Robert Griffin III on the sidelines nursing a knee injury, backup quarterback Kirk Cousins came in and threw a touchdown to wide receiver Pierre Garcon to get within two points.

The ensuing two-point conversion — a run on a quarterback draw by Cousins — was also good, and the game was tied to force overtime. After the Washington defense forced the Baltimore offense off the field on its opening possession, cornerback Richard Crawford took the ensuing punt inside the Baltimore 30-yard line. From there, kicker Kai Forbath continued his perfect season and nailed the game-winning kick.

Here’s how several players reacted to the win on Twitter tonight:

#BALvsWAS: Overtime Observations

The Baltimore Ravens won the overtime toss and elected to receive to open overtime, beginning from their own 24. After an incomplete pass by quarterback Joe Flacco, running back Ray Rice carried the rock for a four-yard gain, setting up a 3rd and 6. Flacco was flushed out of the pocket and took off, getting just three yards.

The defense did its job.

And, on the ensuing punt, rookie cornerback Richard Crawford — returning for the first time all season — took the 56-yard kick 64 yards to the Baltimore 24-yard line.

The huge special-teams play set up a 34-yard, game-winning Kai Forbath field goal as the Redskins pulled out a inspired 31-28 win over the AFC North-leading Ravens in front of a spirited FedExField crowd.

The hero of the game, other than Crawford, is rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins, who took over for a hobbled Robert Griffin III in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter and led his team to a game-tying touchdown and two-point conversion.

With Washington Redskins’ star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III hobbled on the sidelines in the fourth quarter today against the Baltimore Ravens , the team had to turn to another rookie, Kirk Cousins, with his team down eight points to the NFC North leaders.

Cousins promptly led his team on a game-tying drive — highlighted by a touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon and a game-tying two-point conversion ran in by, who else, Cousins — to tie the game. At the end of regulation, the Redskins and the Ravens are tied at 28.

Here’s some key plays from the fourth quarter:
