Quarterback Eddie LeBaron thrived for the Washington Redskins in his No. 14 uniform. From 1952 to 1953 — and then again from 1955 to 1959 — LeBaron established himself as one of the greatest Redskins players in team history, as the Redskins Ring of Fame honoree and four-time Pro Bowler (three times with the Redskins) passed for 8,068 yards and 59 touchdowns in his seven-year Washington career.
The number 14 has another significant meaning this week, as that’s where all seven of the national outlets we use for our weekly Power Rankings Roundup put the Redskins in their own rankings this week.
It just happens to be Week 14, too. The irony is almost too much.
Anyway, here’s where the Redskins fall with this week’s Power Rankings Roundup:
The Redskins moved up two spots to 14th in this week’s AP Pro 32 poll:
CBSSports.com — which has bumped the Redskins up 11 spots the last two weeks — bumped them up another spot this week:
The Redskins haven’t been a favorite of the ESPN.com power rankings voters this season. This week, after making small jumps the past few games, the Redskins finally made a large stride forward — three spots up to 14th:
ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano dug further into the ESPN.com rankings:
FoxSports.com’s Brian Billick moved the Redskins up to 14th overall and adds a nifty little factoid:
NFL.com analyst Elliot Harrison bumped up the Redskins two spots to No. 14 overall. Harrison has been one of the toughest on the Redskins and ranked them at 30th overall at one point this season, but he’s coming around:
ProFootballTalk.com/NBC this week moved the Redskins up one spot to No. 14 with a blast from Redskins past. Thanks for bringing this up:
Sports Illustrated and columnist Don Banks had the Redskins at No. 14 last week. They’re at No. 14 again this week — after a win over his No. 8 Giants. Does that make much sense? Anyway, Banks seems to be a believer in the Redskins, nonetheless:
