Morris’ ‘Welcome To The NFL’ Moment

Alfred Morris AMA

Alfred Morris today revealed with those participating in his reddit AMA (“ask me anything”) interview that he finally had his “Welcome To The NFL” moment on Monday night vs. the New York Giants.

On 3rd and 3 with 1:07 left in a game that the Redskins were leading 17-16, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III handed the ball off to Morris as the Redskins relied on their rookie running back to seal the victory. He did just that, gaining six yards and earning the first down, and Griffin III was able to take a knee from that point to officially win the game for the Redskins.

Morris was asked today by redditor “brownboss”  what his “wow, I can’t believe I’m here” moment was:

“The Monday night 3rd [down] conversion,” Morris wrote.

It was just one of many terrific questions asked in his AMA, which will continue with linebacker/athlete/special teams ace Lorenzo Alexander next Thursday.

Here’s a recap of some of the better (OK, more off-the-wall) AMA questions for Morris today with his answers:

Official Review: Why Morgan’s TD Stands

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 6, 2012 – 3:34 pm

There was lots of talk after Monday night’s 17-16 Redskins victory over the New York Giants about quarterback Robert Griffin III‘s first-quarter fumble that magically ended up in the hands of wide receiver Joshua Morgan, who took it 13 yards to the end zone for a touchdown.

After the game, Griffin III joked that the play was a planned pitch.

“We didn’t run it in practice, because we wanted to save it for the game,” Griffin III said with a laugh. “I just knew he was going to be there ready for it. I just had to make sure I grabbed that guy’s leg that was right next to me, so that he wouldn’t get to it. Josh did a good job, making sure he was in the spot he needed to be.”

But all joking aside, the officials overseeing Monday’s game did a terrific job getting the call right. After review, they determined the ball was coming out of Griffin III’s possession before he could officially be ruled down.

The play was the subject of a recent “Official Review” segment on the NFL Network in which Carl Johnson, the NFL’s vice president of officiating, and Dean Blandino, the director of officiating, go over the decisions that were made with a fine-toothed comb.

Johnson and Blandino pointed out that everything would’ve been different had the play happened with less than two minutes remaining or on fourth down.

Trey Songz’ Best Gift? Redskins Slippers

Trey Songz could have anything in the world, so what’s been the best gift he’s ever received?

A pair of Redskins slippers. No joke.

The award-winning singer/songwriter/actor was a guest on “The Wendy Williams Show” this morning, and was asked about the gift:

“I’m a big, huge Redskins fan, and actually, my grandmother last Christmas, she got me these Redskins slippers,” Trey Songz said. “She’s always like, ‘I don’t know what to get you, ’cause you have everything.’ And the first time I wore it, like, we won, and we never win all the time. And it’s been a great season [in 2012].”

Here’s the video of Trey Songz’ appearance on “The Wendy Williams Show.” He talks about the Redskins between the 5:15 and 5:36 marks:

Series History: Redskins-Ravens

The Redskins have played the Ravens just four times in their history since the Cleveland Browns relocated to Baltimore to form the Ravens in 1996.

The Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium is located about 22 miles southeast of their training headquarters in Owings Mills, Md.

The Redskins lost the first-ever matchup against the Ravens, 20-17, Oct. 26, 1997, in Landover, Md. In that game, Washington came within three points at 17-14 in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from quarterback Gus Frerotte to Brian Mitchell before the Ravens kicked a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. A Scott Blanton 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter by the Redskins wouldn’t be enough to get a win.

Frerotte completed 17-of-33 passes for 199 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on the day, as the Redskins’ offense was held to just 249 yards on the day.

VIDEO: Alfred Morris On ‘NFL AM’

Alfred Morris on Monday night vs. the New York Giants had three awesome moments: he first eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark; then he broke the Redskins’ rookie record for single-season rushing yards; and finally, he set a career-high for rushing yards with 124.

But what was probably his favorite moment from the game?

I’d guess it was his six-yard run on 3rd and 3 with 1:07 left in the game to seal Washington’s 17-16 victory.

Morris this morning was a guest on the NFL Network’s “NFL AM,” and talked about his under-the-radar performance so far, playing with Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, his 1991 Mazda “Bentley,” and much more.

Here’s the video:

Ever wanted to ask Alfred Morris what it’s like to earn a career-best performance in the most critical game of the season?

Or what it’s like to break the Redskins’ rookie rushing record?

What about asking him how many actual home runs — and not just end zone celebrations — he hit as a youngster?

Well, you have the chance to ask the Redskins rookie running back these questions and more with this week’s reddit “Ask Me Anything” (AMA), which will be happening around 3:30 p.m.

MIC’D UP: London Fletcher Vs. Giants

WARNING: Don’t read this post or watch the video below unless you want to like London Fletcher even more.

You want intensity from your leaders during a critical game down the stretch against the divisional leaders? Redskins veteran middle linebacker London Fletcher defines intensity.

Fletcher was mic’d up for the Monday Night Football matchup against the New York Giants, a game that the Redskins rallied to win 17-16 to move a game back of the NFC East-leaders and reigning Super Bowl champions.

Fletcher — the undisputed emotional leader of the team — was all jacked up, and I’m so glad that he was chosen to be mic’d up for the broadcast and for NFL Films. At 37 years old, his passion and excitement for the game has never wavered.

Below is the video, but here are a few of my favorite snippets (though words don’t do it justice):

Dale Jr.: ‘Why I Love The Redskins’

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 6, 2012 – 9:53 am

It’s well-known that NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a huge Washington Redskins fan.

It all began after watching his first game, which happened to be Super Bowl XVII, when Washington defeated the Miami Dolphins 27-17, and game MVP John Riggins ran 38 times for 166 yards and a touchdown.

Earnhardt was in attendance at Monday night’s primetime matchup against the New York Giants, and was so excited after leaving the game — a 17-16 Redskins’ victory — that he sent ESPN NASCAR reporter Marty Smith an 848-word piece about his love for the team.

You can read the entire thing by clicking here, but here are some of my favorite parts. I think we all can relate to Earnhardt’s passion and excitement for the Redskins:
