Shanahan Sends RG3 ‘Cool Hand Luke’

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan unknowingly dated himself after Thursday’s 38-31 win over the Cowboys after comparing quarterback Robert Griffin III’s performances in key games to “Cool Hand Luke.”
“Cool Hand Luke,” of course, is a 1967 flick starring Paul Newman in which the main character, Luke, is a cool customer Southern prisoner who is repeatedly able to escape from the custody of authorities and won’t take “No” for an answer.
The movie was released about 23 years before Griffin III was born, so when he was asked about the comparison in the postgame press conference, Griffin III wasn’t too sure how to respond.
He laughed and said Luke must be “pretty cool.”
Shanahan on Friday told reporters he was going to send Griffin III a copy of “Cool Hand Luke” for proper perspective.
“I did let him know it was a good compliment,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan must’ve used express shipping, because Griffin III today tweeted the photo above with this message:

With another couple days off until the Redskins return to practice, I bet Griffin III — if he hasn’t already — will definitely be checking out what all the “Cool Hand Luke” hype is about soon.

I like that this team seams to like one another. I’ve seen Paulson pick Robert up off his feet with ease, Trent and Robert hugging after big plays, Merriweather and Hall mesh well, (BAAAD BOOYS WHAT!) Moss and Garcon talking about routes. Hello, and a kicker! Just a good vibe. And the coach smiles…sometimes.
Now we just need to get EVERYONE healthy and get ‘er done!
