So I woke up this morning in my Dallas hotel and started my routine — which includes getting a morning newspaper — when I stumbled upon this front page in The Dallas Morning News.
If you did a double take, you’re not alone: Yes, that’s Robert Griffin III in a Dallas newspaper the day of the first Redskins-Cowboys matchup of the year — a nationally-televised Thanksgiving game, no less — with an above-the-fold headline that reads, “A rival who’s hard to hate.”
I think this whole Hostess thing has really driven people mad.
OK, I definitely get it. Griffin III is a Texan and a hero of sorts around here, especially after he won the Heisman Trophy award last season at Baylor.
But I’m not too sure Griffin III — at least today — is feeling the love for his home state, despite the fact that he’ll probably have dozens of family and friends at Cowboys Stadium cheering him on (and countless others watching on TV). Griffin III tweeted this yesterday:
Back in Texas and on a mission—

Griffin III said this of his Texas homecoming on Tuesday:
“It will be fun. I’ll see a lot of familiar faces. I have a lot of fans down there who got to see me grow up in Copperas Cove, Texas. They go to college at Baylor, so it will definitely be a good homecoming, more so of a homecoming than New Orleans was. Certainly looking forward to having fun, but we’re going there with one goal in mind and that’s to win.”
That’s what I like to hear.
