RIP: Kerrigan’s Snaps-Played Streak

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 9:14 pm

On the 1,752nd snap, Ryan Kerrigan rested.

The Redskins outside linebacker sat out the first defensive snaps of his career in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, a game that was well in hand at that point for the Redskins, who won 31-6.

Kerrigan — the Redskins’ first-round (16th overall) pick in the 2011 NFL Draft — had played in 1,751 straight defensive snaps to begin his career until the coaching staff replaced him with Chris Wilson for nine plays at the end of Sunday’s game, according to Pro Football Focus stats.

The Purdue product said it was “kind of weird” to watch the Redskins’ defense at work from the sidelines.

Sundberg Feels Good After 1st Game Back

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 5:49 pm

Washington Redskins longsnapper Nick Sundberg on Sunday appeared in his first game since suffering a broken arm Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints.

Sundberg — who suffered the injury just before halftime but decided to play the rest of the game — said he felt like his old self Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, who the Redskins defeated 31-6.

The injury occurred when, after snapping the ball to punter Sav Rocca, Sundberg threw out his arms to block. His left arm was squeezed between a helmet and a facemask and the bone snapped.

It didn’t take long for Sundberg to test his arm for the first time on Sunday, as he was sent out to snap for an extra-point attempt after the Redskins scored not even two minutes into the game.

Meriweather Vows To Come Back Stronger

Brandon Meriweather on Sunday provided the kind of spark the Washington Redskins’ defense has been craving the entire season.

Unfortunately for Meriweather, his teammates, coaches and Redskins fans, the safety’s season has come to an abrupt end — just when it was getting off to a late start.

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said today that Meriweather will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, a day after Meriweather registered seven tackles, two pass breakups and an interception in the Redskins’ 31-6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Meriweather suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s game. While chasing the ball carrier, his knee appeared to buckle without any other contact, and he was removed from the game for what was characterized after the game as a “precautionary” measure.

But an MRI performed today on the knee told a different story.

Meriweather took to Twitter today to relay a message to the Redskins fans:

VIDEO: Griffin III ‘Will Steal Thanksgiving’

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 12:15 pm

The Grinch stole Christmas, and the NFL Network’s Mark Kriegel believes Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will steal Thanksgiving.

Kriegel made his prediction on this morning’s edition of “NFL AM,” just minutes after the crew interviewed Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen.

He’s of course referring to the Redskins’ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday at Cowboys Stadium. Kriegel said he’s been impressed with Griffin III’s performance in his rookie season.

“Forget the numbers, though; remember this,” Kriegel said. “Six months out of college, he has talent without hubris; youth without folly; the capacity to thrill without making the fatal mistake.”

NFL AM then cut to the clip of Tony Romo botching the hold on a game-winning field-goal attempt in a 2007 playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.

“Hey, some guys spend their entire careers making rookie mistakes,” Kriegel said. “So do yourself a favor, take the ‘Skins over the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, OK?”

Here’s the entire piece by Kriegel and NFL AM:

VIDEO: Stephen Bowen On ‘NFL AM’

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 11:37 am

Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen’s intimidating game face (see above) wasn’t enough to detract the folks at the NFL Network from putting him on national television this morning.

Bowen was interviewed live by the “NFL AM” crew about yesterday’s 31-6 win over the Eagles, Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and his team’s big Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Dallas Cowboys Thursday at Cowboys Stadium.

Bowen said the quick turnaround from yesterday’s game vs. the Eagles to Thursday’s game vs. Cowboys will result in some long days and nights in the few days leading up to the matchup.

“It’s all going to be worth it once you get that win on Thursday, because you have a couple days off and then get ready for the following week,” he said.

Here’s the entire interview with Bowen, who also was the subject of a recent Redskins Google+ Hangout:

Who Wants A Free Sub For Lunch?

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 19, 2012 – 9:05 am

It’s that time of the day where your stomach is growling and you’re constantly looking at the clock.

I know from experience — it’s happening to me right now.

So, because the Redskins offense scored more than 20 points in yesterday’s win against the Philadelphia Eagles, you can have a free six-inch sub from Subway, courtesy of the restaurant and the Washington Redskins.

To participate (you need to use it at participating Subway restaurants in the greater Washington, D.C., area), click on the photo above and print out the coupon, which gets you a free six-inch sub with the purchase of a 30 oz. drink and a bag of chips.

The offer is only good the day after home games in which the Redskins score 20 or more points — so escape from the office early and grab some lunch on us.
