#PHIvsWAS: Fourth Quarter Conclusions

A complete football game.

That’s what the Washington Redskins gave today, as they pummeled the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, 31-6, at FedExField.

The Redskins (4-6) set the tone with strong, play-making defense, took advantage with a big-play offense and had steady special teams to take care of the Eagles (3-7), who continue their downhill slide.

The fourth quarter didn’t start off on the right foot for the Redskins. On 4th and 1 from the Philadelphia 18-yard line, Washington elected to go for it, handing off to running back Alfred Morris. Morris was stuffed for no gain, giving the ball back to the Eagles.

But the Redskins’ defense — as it has done the entire game — answered the bill. Cornerback DeAngelo Hall continued a strong game by dropping running back LeSean McCoy for a five-yard loss on second down, and on third down, quarterback Nick Foles was forced to throw the ball away, setting up a punt.

The Redskins — set to run out some clock — found success on the ensuing drive on the ground. On consecutive plays, Morris ran for 17 and seven yards, and then Griffin III ran for 20 before Morris answered with nine more yards. Two plays later, the Redskins decided to pass, and Griffin III found tight end Logan Paulsen for a 17-yard touchdown pass-and-catch. It was a five play, 55-yard drive that took 2:41 off the clock.

Here’s a huge positive from today’s contest: the Redskins take a ton of momentum into their next game, which is just four days from today. They go into Dallas for a Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Cowboys, who couldn’t close out the Cleveland Browns today at Cowboys Stadium. Not a lot of time for either team to prepare, but with a performance like today’s, the Redskins have a plethora of positive film to study over the next couple days.

Good win, we’ll take it. Way to many penalties. The only thing that probably saved them in this one is Vick didn’t play and they didn’t turn the ball over. Skins also caught good balls. On another note I thought with 9 minutes left in the game it was distasteful for Brian Billick and the anouncer to be discussing Andy Reeds future and possible dismissal. Skins don’t get any wins like this. I could have done without the 5 minute Andy discussion and heard more of the win we got. Save the Andy talk for the radio announcer boys.

Congrat’s Skins…I think I’ll just sit back and savior this win.
