12th Man Battle Goes To The Best Fans

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 18, 2012 – 7:08 pm

Not only did the Washington Redskins pummel the Philadelphia Eagles on the field today, but you Redskins supporters continued to show that you are the best fanbase in the NFL.

The Redskins fans today won the “12th Man Battle” against the Eagles fans, a social media competition that began Wednesday night and concluded at the end of today’s 31-6 Washington victory at FedExField.

To be honest, it didn’t look like we had a chance at first. The Eagles held a commanding 80- to 20-percent lead at one point before a massive campaign by Redskins players and fans brought Washington over the top for the four-percent win, 52-48.

The Washington Redskins defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 31-6 today in front of an energetic FedExField crowd.

It was perhaps the first time all season the Redskins (4-6) have put together a solid all-around game for four quarters from its offense, defense and special teams.

The satisfying feeling carried over after the game on Twitter, where the Redskins players were tweeting away. Players like quarterback Robert Griffin III, who answered ESPN anchor Trey Wingo’s sarcastic tweet about his one incomplete pass on the day:

Others also chimed in, like:

Week 11 Photo Gallery

A complete football game.

That’s what the Washington Redskins gave today, as they pummeled the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, 31-6, at FedExField.

The Redskins (4-6) set the tone with strong, play-making defense, took advantage with a big-play offense and had steady special teams to take care of the Eagles (3-7), who continue their downhill slide.

#PHIvsWAS: Third Quarter Thoughts

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 18, 2012 – 3:17 pm

The Washington Redskins got the ball to open the second half of today’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, a contest they went into halftime leading 17-3.

The Washington offense, however, committed two penalties on the first drive of the second half and was forced to punt from the shadow of their own goal post. The Eagles’ offense, meanwhile, capitalized on a 3rd and 5 when quarterback Nick Foles found tight end Brent Celek for a 22-yard gain. Covering tight ends has been an issue for the Redskins’ defense this season, and hadn’t been a problem today until that play.

On the next play, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was wrapped up and thrown down by outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan for a six-yard loss, but the positive play didn’t come without a bit of bad news (albeit with an unknown outcome) for the Redskins: safety Brandon Meriweather appeared to suffer an injury on the play and limped off the field after being attended to by the team’s medical staff.

Meriweather was playing his first game of the season today after suffering knee injuries during the preseason and then prior to the Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To this point of the game, Meriweather was shining with seven tackles, two passes defended and an interception.

#PHIvsWAS: Halftime Summations

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 18, 2012 – 2:25 pm

The second quarter of today’s game between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles began with the Eagles driving into Redskins territory.

On 3rd and 8 from the Washington 23-yard line, Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles was forced to throw the ball away, setting up a 41-yard field goal by Alex Henery.

It was an 11-play, 61-yard drive for an Eagles offense that badly needed it. They got 45 of those yards on two screen passes from Foles to running back LeSean McCoy, so we’ll see if they keep dialing up those plays.

#PHIvsWAS: First Quarter Recollections

Posted by Andrew Walker on November 18, 2012 – 1:39 pm

Today’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins at FedExField sure has a lot on the line for two 3-6 teams.

A win, and you’re still potentially in the playoff picture. A loss, and you’re not.

The Eagles won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. They started the game’s opening drive from their own 21-yard line.

Getting his first-career start at quarterback for the Eagles is Nick Foles. He was almost brought down for a huge loss on their first play before throwing the ball away, and then two plays later, on 3rd and 8, cornerback DeAngelo Hall picked off a tipped pass and brought it to the Philadelphia nine-yard line.

Two plays later, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III found his fullback Darrel Young wide open over the shoulder for a six-yard touchdown pass, and after the extra point, Washington claimed a very early 7-0 lead against their divisional rivals.
