The Washington Redskins went on the road for their 2012 NFC East Division debut last Sunday and almost pulled out a dramatic, last-minute win against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
For the Redskins players and coaches — and probably many of you fans — “almost” doesn’t cut it. To get where they want to go this season, the Redskins know they need to close out games like the Giants matchup and prevent that one big play from ruining a celebratory ride home.
For some of the experts and analysts who conduct weekly NFL power rankings polls, however, “almost” for the Redskins seemed good enough for them not to see much of a fall in this week’s rankings. In fact, in one poll, they gained three spots.
Maybe it’s an indication that many feel the Redskins are a little better than their record indicates. Or maybe not. Anyway, here’s the weekly Power Rankings Roundup:
The Redskins didn’t move a bit in this week’s AP Pro 32 power rankings, where they remain at No. 13 overall. That’s pretty good for a 3-4 team:
CBSSports.com’s rankings didn’t make too much sense last week, as the Redskins actually dropped a spot after defeating the then-4-1 Minnesota Vikings 38-26. I guess they make a little more sense this week; they drop another spot to No. 21 overall:
The Redskins moved down three spots from 15th to 18th in ESPN.com’s power rankings:
ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano dug further into the ESPN.com rankings:
FoxSports.com’s Brian Billick — who ranked the Redskins as high as 11th last week — this week put the Redskins at No. 14 overall, but calls the Redskins’ play-action passing scheme “the best in the league:”
NFL.com analyst Elliot Harrison didn’t penalize the Redskins for their loss to the Giants. They stay right where they were last week at No. 20:
ProFootballTalk.com/NBC hasn’t been the biggest believer in the Redskins this season. But they actually moved Washington three spots up on their list to 13th overall, even after the loss:
Continuing the theme of staying put, Sports Illustrated and columnist Don Banks this week keeps the Redskins at No. 16, the same ranking they occupied a week ago:
