Training Camp Home Will Be NFL’s ‘Model’

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 22, 2012 – 8:05 pm

Moving training camp to the City of Richmond, Va., next summer is far more than a football decision for the Washington Redskins.

By moving training camp from rural Redskins Park in Loudoun County into an urban area like Richmond, the Redskins players can become role models for thousands of area children who are expected to flock to the new Bon Secours Redskins Training Center for summers to come.

The team and the city announced today that Richmond’s Leigh Street, just behind the Virginia Science Museum, will be the new training camp home for the Washington Redskins. Construction of the Redskins practice fields and a state-of-the-art Fieldhouse and sports medicine facility is expected to begin very soon.

“We have to be very thankful for the leadership of [Virginia] Gov. [Robert] McDonnell and [Richmond] Mayor [Dwight] Jones for putting together this type of program that we feel is going to help not only the Washington Redskins and our wonderful fans throughout the Commonwealth, but all the kids in this area,” Redskins general manager Bruce Allen said at a Monday afternoon press conference at the Leigh Street site. “We can help kids in this area by having them see our role-model players.”

Both Allen and Jones said they believe that when all construction is done by next summer, the new Redskins training camp home will be something other NFL teams will try to mimic.

King broke out his crystal ball and made the projection this morning in his weekly “Monday Morning Quarterback” column.

Oh, and he also compares Griffin III to Irish musician and U2 front man Bono.

But back to Super Bowls.

King said it won’t be long until the Redskins have built around Griffin III enough to capture multiple titles:

Watch 4th And 10 Over And Over

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 22, 2012 – 11:40 am

Had the Redskins won yesterday’s battle against the New York Giants, it would’ve been the second straight week that quarterback Robert Griffin III and the Redskins offense had the play.

Last week, it was Griffin III’s 76-yard touchdown run to seal Washington’s 38-26 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Yesterday, it was a mad scramble by Griffin III on 4th and 10 with the Redskins trailing by four late against the Giants that captured the buzz (above .GIF courtesy of SB Nation).
