Redskins Players Move On To Steelers

Having a big, come-from-behind win against the defending Super Bowl champs on the road within your grasps and seeing it just slip away is probably one of the toughest scenarios for an NFL player.

That’s what happened today to the Washington Redskins, who made a final push to pull ahead of the New York Giants before seeing two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Eli Manning take the game right back with a long touchdown pass to Victor Cruz.

Several Redskins players were tweeting after the game about the loss; some of them were raving about Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III; some were talking about the loss of tight end Fred Davis, who is out for the year with a torn Achilles; and others were talking about lessons learned:

Safety Reed Doughty:

#WASvsNYG: Fourth Quarter Conclusions

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 4:05 pm

(AP photo)

The Washington Redskins knew they were in for a fight today as they opened up their NFC East schedule against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

And, in the end, despite a potential go-ahead touchdown by the Redskins’ offense with 1:26 left, the defense couldn’t hold on.

A 77-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Eli Manning to receiver Victor Cruz with just over a minute to go sealed the Giants’ 27-23 win over the Redskins at MetLife Stadium.

#WASvsNYG: Third Quarter Thoughts

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 3:15 pm

The Redskins were forced into a three and out for the first time all game on their first drive of the second half. Sav Rocca’s 33-yard punt resulted in a fair catch by Rueben Randle at the New York 27-yard line.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning tried to capitalized immediately by going over the top to a wide open Victor Cruz. The pass was overthrown, however, and Washington dodged a bullet. A holding call two plays later set up a 3rd and 16 from the 21, but Stephen Bowen was called offsides. On 3rd and 11, Manning found Domenik Hixon for six yards, and it was the Giants this time who were forced to punt. Returner Brandon Banks took the wobbly, line-drive kick at the 24-yard line and returned it 12 yards, setting up a 1st and 10 at the Washington 36-yard line.

If Banks could’ve caught the punt in the air, he likely could’ve had a much better return. But the weird spin on the ball made it nose dive about five yards in front of Banks, and he took it off the bounce.

#WASvsNYG: Halftime Summations

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 2:31 pm

The Giants began the second quarter in the middle of a successful drive, with a 1st and 10 from the Redskins’ 21-yard line.

Two plays later on third down, New York quarterback Eli Manning found running back Ahmad Bradshaw for a 10-yard gain and the first down. They faced another third down — this time with seven yards to go from the eight-yard line — when Manning, in the shotgun, found receiver Hackeem Nicks for the seven yards they needed for the first down.

#WASvsNYG: First Quarter Recollections

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 1:39 pm

The Redskins won the opening kickoff and deferred to the second half, an act that as resulted in a 61-percent winning percentage for teams this season, according to Elias. Washington was offsides on the opening kickoff, however, and the Giants took the re-kick to their own 30-yard line. During the return, Redskins safety DeJon Gomes was helped off the field after a hard hit by a Giants blocker. He returned to the field just a few plays later.

The Giants faced a 3rd and 12 from the Redskins’ 47-yard line, but outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was called offsides. On the next play, Giants quarterback Eli Manning found Hakeem Nicks for a six-yard gain, and they decided to go for it on 4th and 1.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: ‘Skins Take The Field

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 12:38 pm

If you don’t think these NFC East games mean a little bit more to the Washington Redskins, watch the video below and tell me linebacker and captain London Fletcher hasn’t pumped things up a notch.

Fletcher rallied the troops as usual, and the Redskins Blog was right there to capture it — as well as the rest of the Redskins, including quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins — take the field.

Here’s the footage:

Vote RG3 As Your No. 10 Of The Day

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 9:05 am

Today’s game between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants features a battle of No. 10s at quarterback.

The Redskins (3-3) are led by dymanic rookie Robert Griffin III, who has thrice been named the NFL’s Rookie of the Week. The Giants (4-2) are led by veteran Eli Manning, a two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player.

As always, you Redskins have a voice in picking which No. 10 you think will excel in today’s game.

Voting for Griffin III in today’s campaign is easy:

Redskins-Giants: Experts Pick ‘Em

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 8:46 am

(AP photo)

Vegas had the Washington Redskins as favorites for the first time in three weeks last Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, and Sin City was correct.

Let’s hope this week they’re wrong.

The Redskins (3-3) are 7.5-point underdogs today as they travel to the Big Apple to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants (4-1).

It’s a pretty drastic spread against a team that has been in every game this season and could very well be 5-1 at this point, and many experts seem to agree — although they don’t see the Redskins pulling off the upset.

Spoiler alert: just less than nine percent of the analysts below are predicting the Redskins will be victorious today:

YOU PICK: Who Shines Vs. The Giants?

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 8:08 am

(AP photo)

Today’s matchup against the New York Giants represents the latest the Washington Redskins have opened up divisional play since at least the 1970 season.

With six games already under their belts, the Redskins players have been understandably antsy this week in preparation for their first tough, gritty game against an NFC East foe.

But there was also a loose and confident feeling oozing from the locker room this week, and I can imagine a few players in particular are really ready to break out against the Giants and give Washington an early lead in the NFC East Division race.

Here’s a few of those players — which one do YOU think will shine today vs. the Giants? And if none of the below, please, by all means, put your pick in the comments:

AccuScore Projects ‘Skins-Giants Game

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 21, 2012 – 7:59 am

(AP photo)

The computers at AccuScore apparently aren’t too confident that the Redskins can go into MetLife Stadium today and pull out a win against the New York Giants.

The Redskins open up NFC East Division play with the matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Giants (4-2), who are coming off a very satisfying and dominant win over the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park.

But the Redskins (3-3) are also coming off an impressive 38-26 win over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday, who entered the game at 4-1 and were leading the NFC North.

But, it’s always fun to throw both teams into the computer and see what wacky statistics and results are shot back out, which is exactly what AccuScore does each week.

Here’s the highlights of today’s AccuScore predictions for Redskins-Giants, according to ESPN:
