The Washington Redskins announced Tuesday afternoon the signing of outside linebacker Mario Addison, who takes the place of waived outside linebacker Markus White.
Addison (6-3, 257) was originally signed as a college free agent by the Chicago Bears on July 26, 2011. He was waived by Chicago on Nov. 21, 2011, before being claimed off waivers a day later by the Indianapolis Colts.
He appeared in three games with the Bears and three games with the Colts in 2011, finishing with six tackles (two solo). Addison appeared in the Colts’ first three games of the 2012 season and had two tackles.
Addison — a Troy product — is also the newest addition to the Redskins Beard Bunch.
For those of you who are unaware, the Redskins Beard Bunch is an elite group of Redskins players and staff members who sport distinguishing beards, and includes the following men:
- Nose tackle Barry Cofield
- Safety Reed Doughty
- Cornerback Cedric Griffin
- Cornerback DeAngelo Hall
- Linebacker Bryan Kehl
- Defensive lineman Chris Neild
- Tight end Niles Paul
- Tight end Logan Paulsen
- Middle linebacker Perry Riley
- Cornerback Josh Wilson
- Defensive lineman Doug Worthington
- Head strength and conditioning coach Ray Wright
- Redskins blogger Andrew Walker
OK, so it’s not a real thing. But I can still imagine that we have weekly Redskins Beard Bunch meetings and T-shirts and stuff like that.
Anyway, back to Addison. He finished his collegiate career at Troy (2009-10) after spending two years at Northeast Mississippi Community College (2007-08). He appeared in 25 games with 12 starts at Troy, where he totaled 79 tackles (50 solo), 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed.
Addison attended Tarrant (Ala.) H.S., where he was a two-time all-state selection and also played running back.
Here’s a lengthy video (via BJHamilton06) of some of Addison’s highlights from Troy:
