Redskins Thinking Of Chuck Pagano

Posted by Andrew Walker on October 1, 2012 – 6:00 pm

In the flurry of an NFL season, it’s often hard for a coach or player to find time to tend to their own needs.

Fortunately, Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano was able to find a little free time to schedule a doctor’s appointment last week during the team’s Bye Week after he had been feeling usual amounts of fatigue since training camp.

The diagnosis for the former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator?

Leukemia.

The word itself is enough to send chills down the spine. The good news, according to the Indianapolis Star, is that team officials are optimistic that Pagano can beat the disease.

Nevertheless, as Pagano begins the long road to recovery, he should know that us here with the Washington Redskins are certainly thinking about him.

A couple of Redskins players — outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and quarterback Robert Griffin III — tweeted about their concerns for Pagano and gave their well-wishes:

Kerrigan — an Indiana native — also spoke with me today and said he was happy to hear that while Pagano’s immediate future as head coach of the Colts is uncertain, that Colts owner Jim Irsay believes Pagano can and will beat the disease.

“Coach Pagano is just a very well-respected man,” Kerrigan said. “It sounds like it’s very treatable, and I couldn’t be happier about that.”

Kerrigan said he has never personally met Pagano, but as a defensive player, he has always had a high-level of respect for Pagano’s success with the Ravens and now with the Colts.

“He’s done a lot of good things in the NFL,” Kerrigan said of Pagano. “He has a proven track record with the Ravens and already early on with the Colts. I know the people in Indy are happy to have him along for this new Colts generation.”

CHIME IN: How about a round of well wishes for Coach Pagano? Feel free to comment below.
