YOU PICK: Who Shines Vs. The Bucs?

The Washington Redskins are on the road again today, as they travel to sunny (and humid) Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m.

There’s lots of interesting storylines to follow today, perhaps none of which more interesting than how the Redskins secondary is going to try to step up after two straight below-par performances. I’d look for the Redskins cornerbacks and the safeties to play with a chip on their shoulder today against a Tampa Bay offense that has struggled to throw the ball so far in 2012.

But there’s several other Redskins (1-2) players who are hoping to have breakout performances against the Buccaneers (1-2), who are coming off a loss last week to the Dallas Cowboys.

So now it’s that time to break out the crystal ball and try to predict which Redskins players are going to shine today against Tampa Bay:

Redskins Weary Of Kneel-Down Attack

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 30, 2012 – 8:49 am

(AP photo)

Put it this way: if the Redskins have the lead and the ball in the final minute of this afternoon’s game, any celebrations will be put on hold until the game clock reaches 0:00.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano has made sure of that.

For the past two weeks, Schiano has ordered his defensive front to charge after the snapped ball while the opposing team is in their “victory formation,” a scheme that has angered several opposing players and coaches alike.

Though the norm in the NFL is for the defense to lay off and accept defeat in those situations, what Schiano is having his players do certainly isn’t illegal. Some have praised the first-year Buccaneers coach for getting his men to play until the final whistle.

Opposing offensive linemen, however, are singing a different tune.

“It’s kind of an understood thing and you don’t violate it, but [the Buccaneers] don’t want to go by those rules,” Redskins guard Kory Lichtensteiger said. “That’s fine – they’re entitled to it. I mean, it’s a play like any other play.”

Lichtensteiger’s fellow offensive linemen agree.

Rev Redskin: Throw The Bucs Overboard

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 30, 2012 – 7:50 am

Rev Redskin is back, and this time he wants to see some Buccaneers walk the plank.

The Washington Redskins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off today for a 4:25 p.m. kickoff at what is likely to be a hot, humid Raymond James Stadium.

And the Rev — one of the more passionate Redskins fans around — says “we’ve got to go down to Tampa to do our thing!”

Rev Redskin’s thing is making inspirational videos, so — wouldn’t you know it? — he made one for you all to enjoy prior to today’s game. Who shares the same sentiment as the Rev, who says, “We’re going to watch how them pirates are going to drown!”

Here’s the video:

VIDEO: Redskins Fans Rally In Tampa

It’s always great to hear a rousing rendition of “Hail To The Redskins” erupting in the opposing team’s city.

That’s exactly what happened early Saturday evening, as the team played host to a Redskins Rally at Elmer’s Sports Cafe in Tampa.

The Redskins and the hometown Buccaneers, of course, face off at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.

But, of course, the best fans in the world wanted to start the festivities early. They did so Saturday at Elmer’s with special guests like Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, former tight end and ESPN 980 personality Rick “Doc” Walker and Larry Michael, the Voice of the Redskins.

Here’s a video from Saturday’s Redskins Rally in Tampa:

Redskins-Buccaneers: Experts Pick ‘Em

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 29, 2012 – 11:11 am

A couple of weeks after getting the confidence of most NFL experts, the Washington Redskins find themselves heading into Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as underdogs.

In fact, less than 40 percent of the experts below believe the Redskins (1-2) can escape Raymond James Stadium with a win against the Buccaneers (1-2), who are considered 2.5-point favorites in Vegas.

I’m more than sure those in the Washington locker room would like to prove these experts and analysts wrong with a lopsided win, but, until they get the chance, check out this week’s Redskins-Buccaneers Experts Pick ‘Em:

Video: Touch ‘Em All, Alfred Morris!

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 28, 2012 – 11:05 am

It took hanging out with a bunch of Little League baseball players for Alfred Morris to be inspired with a new touchdown celebration.

During the Redskins’ organized team activities in May, Morris became quick friends with teammates from the York and Lee County All-Star baseball squads who were staying in the same hotel as the Redskins rookie running back.

“I met with them and was hanging out with them and swam with them,” Morris said this week at Redskins Park. “Really, just spent the day with them.”

Naturally, Morris tagged along when the kids had a baseball game to play that afternoon.

He left that game with a little idea, however.

‘Rookie Watch’ Has Redskins Flavor

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 28, 2012 – 9:58 am

Nine of the 10 selections for this week’s “Rookie Watch,” a weekly look by ESPN.com’s Matt Williamson into the best rookies of the 2012 NFL season, look like this: six first-round picks, two second-round picks and a third-round pick from April’s NFL Draft.

But who’s the one outlier of the group this week?

Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris, who was selected in the sixth round this year out of Florida Atlantic.

Morris — the league’s leading rookie rusher through three weeks of NFL action — comes in at No. 9 overall in this week’s “Rookie Watch,” while his quarterback, Robert Griffin III, is ranked second overall.

Here’s what Williamson had to say about Griffin III’s and Morris’ seasons thus far:

Redskins’ Offense ‘Quietly Dangerous’

Posted by Andrew Walker on September 27, 2012 – 5:03 pm

Through the first three games of the 2012 NFL season, your Washington Redskins have the No. 1-scoring offense in the entire league.

Credit certainly goes to the coaching staff for finding ways to utilize the offensive players’ talents — starting with rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III — and for putting points on the scoreboard.

Though the defense hasn’t yet reached the level of consistency it would like and become a top-10 NFL unit, there’s definitely people taking notice of the improved Redskins’ offense attack.
