Dominique Hamilton’s Whirlwind Ride

The last three weeks have seen Dominique Hamilton traveling from West Coast, to East Coast, to West Coast and back to the East Coast.

For now, however, Hamilton is settled again on the East Coast with the Washington Redskins’ practice squad. The rookie defensive lineman out of Missouri said the jet lag is well-worth the job in the NFL.

After all, Hamilton — a self-described “military brat” — is used to long plane rides, having lived in Germany, Arizona, Georgia, Texas and Missouri.

“It’s just a whirlwind,” Hamilton said Wednesday before participating in his first practice with the Redskins. “I’m just getting acclimated with everything going on.”

The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, Everybody Wins! DC and Barnes & Noble Booksellers are teaming up to play host to the fifth annual Redskins Read Children’s Book Drive, which will kick off with a stadium collection Sunday at FedExField.

Participating is super easy and well worth your time.

Series History: Redskins-Bengals

The Redskins have played the Bengals on eight occasions in the regular season, beginning in 1970. The 2012 matchup is only the third game between the Redskins and the Bengals in the last 20 years, with Cincinnati winning games during the 2004 and 2008 seasons.

The Bengals have played in Cincinnati since their inaugural season as a franchise in 1968. The Bengals’ Paul Brown Stadium is located near the Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio, which also is home to the team’s practice and training facilities.

The Redskins won the first-ever matchup between the two teams, 20-0, on Oct. 25, 1970, at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. In that game, the Redskins outrushed the Bengals 212 yards to 120, led by 110 yards rushing by Larry Brown. Redskins quarterback Sonny Jurgensen was 13-of-24 for 123 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

Cousins’ Jersey Saga Has ‘Happy Ending’

Halloween isn’t for another 40 days, but Kirk Cousins said he already got a head start on his Joe Theismann costume.

Or at least that’s what Cousins — the Redskins’ second-string rookie quarterback — said he was wearing throughout the preseason.

Most modern-day football players — particularly quarterbacks — want a tight-fitting game jersey with extremely short sleeves, which can deter defenders from getting a hold of them and bringing them to the ground without at least working for it.

But when Cousins put his white No. 12 Redskins jersey over his shoulder pads for the team’s preseason opener Aug. 9 against the Buffalo Bills, he said it was quite the shocker.

“I show up in Buffalo and my jersey literally looks like a Halloween costume,” Cousins recalled Wednesday. “I was swimming in it.”

Cousins alerted the Redskins equipment staff about the jersey, but continued to play on through the preseason with his baggy sides exposed and his sleeves down to his elbows.

A review of last Sunday’s Washington Redskins-St. Louis Rams game by the league and Elias Sports Bureau has parlayed into a full sack for Washington Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.

The review comes at the chagrin of defensive end Stephen Bowen, who was originally credited with the sack on the play.
