Week 2 Power Rankings Roundup

The Washington Redskins surprised many in the national media with a Week 1 victory over the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome.

The feat was enough to cause the Redskins to make up some serious ground in various publications’ weekly power rankings — in fact, Washington made the biggest jump forward of any team after Week 1.

But fast forward a week later — with a 31-28 road loss to the St. Louis Rams now in the books — and the Redskins (1-1) are going the opposite way. Add season-ending injuries to defensive end Adam Carriker and outside linebacker Brian Orakpo to the mix, and those in the media are, again, skeptics.

Hopefully a win against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at FedExField can get things back on the right track.

Anyway, here’s the power rankings roundup:

CBSSports.com ranked the Redskins at 19th overall last week. The loss to the Rams dropped Washington just two spots to 21st, but CBSSports.com feels the loss of Carriker and Orakpo will definitely be felt moving forward:

The Redskins dropped five spots from 15th to 20th this week in ESPN.com’s power rankings. I guess the good news is Washington didn’t have the biggest drop in their list; the Kansas City Chiefs fell nine spots:

ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano dug further into the ESPN.com rankings:

Brian Billick, who does FoxSports.com’s power rankings, apparently didn’t think the Redskins’ loss to the Rams — and their losses of Carriker and Orakpo — were enough to give them a nose dive this week. They dropped from 18th to 19th this week:

The Redskins dropped a whole seven spots to No. 22 in NFL.com’s Week 3 power rankings by analyst Elliot Harrison:

ProFootballTalk/NBC Sports apparently thought Redskins fans overreacted to the Week 1 win against the Saints. Washington drops three spots in their power rankings this week:

And, finally, Sports Illustrated and columnist Don Banks agree with ProFootballTalk’s ranking, putting the Redskins at 16th overall this week:
