Be Sure To Arrive Early To Sunday’s Game
Posted by on September 18, 2012 – 9:58 am
There’s already tons of anticipation for the Washington Redskins’ 2012 home opener on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
And although kickoff isn’t until 1 p.m., the Redskins are encouraging all fans to arrive early to Sunday’s game to avoid major traffic jams and delays in the hours and minutes leading up to the matchup.
The lots will be opening at 9 a.m. Sunday, four hours before kickoff. And here’s more good news: I’ll be out there in the tailgating lots as the official “Redskins Blog Taste-Tester.”
So get there early and claim your spot to watch the Redskins open up the home portion of their season on a high note.

9:00 is not early .. other teams open the lots at 7:00 or 8:00 for 1:00 games … by the time you set up the tailgate, you have to start to take it down to get in the stadium in time .. watch “first on the Field” on the NFL network, comes on at 7:00 with shots of tailgating .. with RG3 here .the stadium will be packed .. please reconsider this atleast for opening day

I agree with Don. They should open the lots at 8 at the latest. The later the lots open usually contributes to the fans not being ready to go when the game starts. A great deal of people drive from other areas in VA for this game such as Richmond and Fredericksburg so its much more efficient to open earlier and get things situated earlier. I hope they will one day change this.

What is the best way to get to the stadium? I have never been to a game before. Is there a train or rail that goes and comes back from there?

Here’s some information about the Metro Rail stop that closest to FedExField:

Hope this helps, and thanks for reading!

Lots ALWAYS open at least 4 hrs before kickoff and gates ALWAYS open at least 2 hrs before kickoff. Why the headline on the main page says they are opening early is beyond me.
It is a 1 mile walk from the metro to the stadium gates for the person who was asking about this. Plenty of info about the parking/stadium/etc. on the extremeskins site.

This isn’t early. This is the same as any other game. It would be nice if the gates really did open early! So we aren’t backed out onto the beltway at 8:30 AM.
