Well, if Robert Griffin III hadn’t arrived on the NFL scene prior to today, he has certainly arrived by now.
That’s because Rick Reilly is on the RG3 bandwagon.
Reilly today published a column for ESPN.com in which he gushes over the Washington Redskins rookie quarterback and his “super start.”
In it, Reilly compares Griffin III to the super-hero action figures that drape his locker at Redskins Park.
“Well, why not?” Reilly wrote. “Griffin is something of an action superhero himself after exactly one game in the NFL. What else would you call a rookie who went into the bleeding-ear Superdome and shocked the New Orleans Saints, 40-32, to become the first QB in NFL history to be named [NFC Offensive] Player of the Week in his first game as a pro?”
That’s a good question, Rick.
I had a chance to meet Mr. Reilly himself at Redskins Park this week. I wish he had a free minute while he was here to sit down and chat, or I would’ve interviewed him for your reading pleasure on the Redskins Blog.
Anyway, you could tell what Reilly’s intentions were when Griffin III stepped to the lectern Wednesday for his weekly press conference.
Reilly asked the non-football related questions — about “Griffining” and about what have been the craziest offers he’s gotten or the nuttiest person to have his cellphone number.
“Some guy keeps sending me pictures of jewelry,” Griffin III answered. “I don’t know how he got my number, but I guess he wants to show me his jewelry.”
If that jewelry was free, Griffin III said he’d probably take the guy up on his offer.
Anyway, be sure to check out Reilly’s column. It has some good stuff from Griffin III’s head coach, Mike Shanahan, as well as the awesome flow and readability that only Rick Reilly can produce.
After you read it…
