Week 1 Power Rankings Roundup

In continuing the tradition set forth by former Redskins blogger/current Redskins.com lead writer Brian Tinsman, I’ll be bringing you a roundup each week of where the Redskins fall in the various national media organizations’ power rankings.

This way, you don’t have five to six separate posts per week to sort through — you can get it all in one place.

I already spilled the beans about where the Redskins ranked in this week’s ProFootballTalk/NBC power rankings, simply because I thought you all would be pretty excited about the surge.

Anyway, here we go with the roundup:

CBSSports.com, which has been among the roughest on the Redskins during the preseason, had Washington at No. 26 last week. This week, the Redskins jumped to No. 19:

It does get better for the Redskins, though. ESPN.com puts Washington at No. 15 this week after being ranked 24th the previous week:

ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano dug further into the ESPN.com rankings:

Former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick is in charge of FoxSports.com’s power rankings, and although he didn’t give the Redskins as big of a jump as other organizations did, he also had the Redskins at 23rd overall heading into the Saints game:

The Redskins jumped a whole nine spots to No. 15 in NFL.com’s Week 1 power rankings by analyst Elliot Harrison:

And, of course, the aforementioned ProFootballTalk.com/NBC power rankings, in which the Redskins are ranked No. 13:

And, finally, Sports Illustrated and columnist Don Banks placed the Redskins higher (or lower?) than all of the above:

SI.com Don Bank’s NFL Power Rankings has them at 11. That’s the highest I have seen them ranked so far… Here is what he said about :

“I think I saw where, until Robert Griffin III’s boffo debut, no rookie quarterback had led his team to a 40-point showing in a season opener since 1950. Now that’s a statistic with a little heft to it. None of the other four rookie quarterbacks who started last week led offenses that topped 21 points, let alone won their openers in a hostile setting like the Superdome. And Griffin did it while somehow managing to never once look like a rookie quarterback.”

Good call. For some reason, I had forgotten about SI this week. I’ve included them above now. Thanks for the heads up, and thanks for reading.

Grazino needs to take his hack, non-writing, backside to the home shopping network. It blows me away how hard he kisses romo’s tail end.
