We all know by now how awesome Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III played in his NFL debut against the New Orleans Saints.
Now we need the rest of the league to acknowledge this feeling.
Griffin III — whose 320 passing yards and two touchdowns led the Redskins to a 40-32 win over the Saints — is a nominee for the “FedEx Air NFL Player Of The Week” and the “Pepsi Max NFL Rookie Of The Week” awards.
Voting for Griffin III is super easy.
- To vote for Griffin III as the “FedEx Air NFL Player Of The Week,” go to www.NFL.com/FedEx from 9 a.m. today through 3 p.m. (ET) Friday and select Griffin III.
- To vote for Griffin III as the “Pepsi Max NFL Rookie Of The Week,” go to www.NFL.com/rookies during the same timespan — 9 a.m. today through 3 p.m. (ET) Friday — and select Griffin III.
Voting for Griffin III is important because he deserves it, but it’s especially important to pick the 2011 Heisman Trophy Award winner in the Player of the Week category because he’s up against Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. The other nominee is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
In the Rookie of the Week category, Griffin III faces off against New York Jets wide receiver Stephen Hill, New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin and Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh.
In my opinion, Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris deserves the nod over Martin this week. Morris rushed for 96 yards with two touchdowns against the Saints, while Martin rushed for 95 yards and no touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers.
But maybe the NFL is trying to hit as many markets as possible with these nominees. I don’t know. Other than that, it doesn’t make much sense to me.
Anyway, stop reading this and get to votin’!
