Dale Earnhardt Jr. has done pretty well himself as a professional driver, but he got his shot at a new career as a football broadcaster in last night’s preseason finale between the Washington Redskins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Earnhardt, a huge Redskins fan, was in the ESPN980 radio booth with Larry Michael, the Voice of the Redskins, and color guys Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff, when he was given controls of the play-by-play action.

And, wouldn’t you know it, Redskins running back Roy Helu Jr. ran 15 yards into the end zone on that very first play.

Listening to Earnhardt’s reaction is priceless. Here’s the video:

Cut Day A Nerve-Racking Process For All

Posted by Andrew Walker on August 30, 2012 – 11:54 am

Whether veteran or rookie, “cut day” are two words you never want to hear.

That day is coming up quickly for the Washington Redskins — as in, by 9 p.m. Friday, the team must cut down its roster from 75 players to its final 53 men.

By noon on Saturday, an additional eight players are signed to the team’s practice squad.

Today is an off day for the Redskins players, who are fresh off their 30-3 preseason finale win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The coaching staff, however, is not taking the day off, and you can be sure that they’re meeting throughout the day today and tomorrow to make some difficult decisions.

Kehl was all smiles when asked about the play after the game.

Posted by Andrew Walker on August 30, 2012 – 9:57 am

After being off and on 10 NFL rosters and two other football league teams in a span of four years, it might be easy to understand if Marlon Favorite lost his focus a time or two.

But that hasn’t happened.

Favorite said the journey through professional football since leaving LSU has been a tough one, but he stays grounded by keeping focused on his family, the “man upstairs” and a budding music career.

Favorite started at nose tackle for the Redskins in Wednesday’s 30-3 preseason win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and said he’s just been thankful that he was given another opportunity in the NFL.

“It’s been a rough journey,” Favorite said in the locker room after the game. “So, being given this opportunity, for me, it was just the man upstairs, God blessing me with another opportunity four years removed from college and to have some coaches interested.”
