Video: Kicking Lessons with Billy Cundiff
Posted by on August 28, 2012 – 3:17 pm
The Washington Redskins announced several roster moves early Monday evening as they were required to cut their preseason roster down from 90 players to 75.
Though that roster number must be reduced to 53 by Friday, the team in the meantime took advantage of an opportunity to get itself a Pro Bowl kicker.
Billy Cundiff, who was named All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl in 2010 as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, signed with the Redskins on Tuesday, two days after he was released by the Ravens.
Cundiff brings with him several accolades, but one thing that stood out to me was that he set the NFL record for most touchbacks in a season (44) in 2010. Though many point to field goal percentage as the main attribute for a kicker, coaches also look at where their kickers can help in the field-position game, and Cundiff is certainly a standout in that regard.
For those looking for a close-up at Cundiff’s kicking techniques on field goals and kickoffs, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a video (via coachzauner on YouTube) of Cundiff working out with former NFL kicking coach Gary Zauner:

Chris Cooley’s Career In Photos

Cooley has produced countless memorable moments for Redskins fans over the years. Below is an Associated Press photo gallery of some of his biggest games in a Redskins uniform, including (but not limited to):

Video: Chris Cooley Says Goodbye
Posted by on August 28, 2012 – 2:01 pmIf you’ve been a Washington Redskins fan the past eight-plus seasons, then it’s almost a sure bet you’re a Chris Cooley fan.
Cooley — the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions by a tight end — was released Tuesday by the team, in a move head coach Mike Shanahan said was meant to give the two-time Pro Bowl selection a better opportunity to start elsewhere.
In one of the more classier moves I’ve seen in my time covering sports, Cooley addressed the media and announced his release, and had nothing but great things to say about the Washington Redskins, the organization and its fans.
Here’s the video. Try not to choke up watching this:

Tuesday’s Redskins Practice Video

The Washington Redskins have had little time to relish Saturday’s preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts before getting ready for their next game.
Four days after that 30-17 win, the team plays host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7 p.m. Wednesday at FedExField in both teams’ preseason finales.
The Redskins — with a trimmed roster of just 75 players, compared to 90 the day before — were practicing Tuesday at their Ashburn, Va., facility to prepare for that NFC matchup.

Everybody Say It Together: “Awwwwww”
Posted by on August 28, 2012 – 10:35 amIf little Paige Fletcher can be half the veterinarian that her father is a linebacker, then she’s got a bright career ahead of her.
But for now, she’ll just enjoy her first day of kindergarten.
London Fletcher posted the above photo this morning as Paige took off for her first day of school.

RG3: ‘Music Is The Heartbeat Of The World’
Posted by on August 28, 2012 – 9:22 amHave you ever said something to someone, not really thinking about it, and then realized you actually said something meaningful?
I’m pretty sure that’s what happened to Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III last night during a conversation on Twitter:
“@iPead: @RGIII u still walkin around DC wit that boom box? Lol” Always bro lol Music is the heartbeat of the World—
Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) August 28, 2012
But those seven words, “music is the heartbeat of the world,” apparently struck a chord with Griffin III’s followers, who quickly began re-tweeting and quoting the phrase themselves.
