The Washington Redskins today said great running back Clinton Portis will announce his retirement in a press conference at Redskins Park on Thursday.
Portis played for the Redskins from 2004 through 2010 and ended his career in Washington as the franchise’s second-leading rusher of all-time (6,824 yards), and his 1,516 yards gained in the 2005 season is a Redskins’ single-season record.
Check out the photo gallery below (thanks to the Associated Press) of Portis’s great performances through the years in a Redskins uniform.

Behind Enemy Lines: Indy’s Bob Kravitz
Posted by on August 21, 2012 – 3:05 pmThis week, the Redskins Blog is starting a new weekly segment we’re calling “Behind Enemy Lines,” where we talk with a reporter, columnist or blogger from the city of the team the Redskins are playing that week.
The idea is to get a feel of the opposing team and to get their perception of the Redskins.
We’re starting off on a very high note today as Indianapolis Star sports columnist Bob Kravitz was nice enough to give us a call and address everything from the Andrew Luck-vs.-Robert Griffin III hype for Saturday’s game, former Colts and current Redskins receiver Pierre Garçon, former Purdue star and current Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and where Kravitz sees the Redskins panning out in 2012 and beyond.
One of the best things about Kravitz — who I’ve been reading for years — is that he tells it like it is. His views aren’t always the popular ones, but they’re just that — his views. You can tell he’s a fan of sports; he’s not just a guy covering the game.
Here’s some snippets from today’s conversation with Kravitz. The complete audio interview is below:

Redskins Show Off Their Best Friends
Posted by on August 21, 2012 – 11:06 am
This one is for you Redskins fans who are also dog lovers: a couple of recent tweets by Redskins players indicate you’re not alone.
The players tend to post photos containing several aspects of their lives — what they eat, who they’re with, working out, jokes, etc. — and their pets are certainly not left out of that mix.

Cousins, Compton Honor Sweetness
Posted by on August 21, 2012 – 10:15 amThe Washington Redskins’ offense had much to celebrate in the fourth quarter of its preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday.
Exactly how they would celebrate scoring plays was apparently predetermined — at least for quarterback Kirk Cousins and offensive lineman Tom Compton.
Playing at Chicago’s Solider Field, the Redskins teammates decided to honor Bears’ great running back Walter Payton by trying to recreate his famous jumping hand slap with teammate Todd Bell after Payton broke the NFL’s all-time rushing record in 1984.
