Chris ‘Swaggy’ Baker Having A Ball
Posted by on August 11, 2012 – 10:25 amIf you were able to watch Thursday’s Washington-Buffalo preseason game in its entirety, one of the Redskins players who stood out in the second quarter and beyond was defensive lineman Chris Baker.
Baker made his presence known against the Bills, earning two tackles — one for a loss — and one quarterback hit. When he wasn’t making the play, he was often finding his way into the backfield and causing other teammates to make a play.
It was all in a day’s work for Baker, a happy-go-lucky nose tackle and defensive end who continues to have a strong preseason showing.
“I felt great,” Baker told reporters after the game. “I worked hard this offseason so, getting out there and playing as many plays as I played at end, at nose, nickel, I felt great.”
Before the game, let’s just say Baker was loose and ready to go. With his headphones on during pregame individual stretching, Baker was dancing and singing for everybody to hear.
Baker has also not been shy about letting his self-described “Swaggy” personality known, which describes Baker’s style to a T.
Though it’s not quite earned the notoriety of a “Primetime” or a “Pacman,” I’m sure Baker hopes his “Swaggy” style catches on with fans soon.
“Football is fun for me,” Baker said after Thursday’s game. “I don’t want to be out there all tight. By me dancing and having fun, it’s just the way of expressing how much fun I am having out there.”
Last week, the Redskins Blog profiled Baker and first introduced his “Swaggy” persona — not to mention his tendency to post photos of his swoll self after working out.
But, if it’s any comfort, a majority of Baker’s tweets are usually either inspirational or religious in nature, if that’s your kind of thing.
It’s hard not to like a guy like Baker who doesn’t take himself too seriously but also shows an obvious passion for the game of football and for Redskins fans.
And, as a bonus, I just happened to be at the tunnel getting some video as most of the Redskins’ linemen came onto the Ralph Wilson Stadium field Thursday.
Yes, the loudest voice you hear below is that of Baker, No. 92, whose not shy about letting his “Swaggy” language known:
