Training Camp Video: LBs vs. RBs
Posted by on August 6, 2012 – 4:30 pmWe conclude our videos from Monday’s training camp practice with one of our favorites: the linebackers vs. running backs pass-protection drill.
It’s a shame I didn’t record sooner — the play before the first one you see in the video below, outside linebacker Brian Orakpo absolutely destroyed his running back counterpart.

Rookie Spotlight: Richard Crawford
Posted by on August 6, 2012 – 1:50 pmEach day during training camp, the Redskins Blog will be highlighting one rookie as they participate in their first professional camp and try to find their way onto the final roster. Today’s spotlight is on cornerback Richard Crawford.
Richard Crawford wants a championship, and he’ll do anything to get it.
That’s what the Redskins’ rookie cornerback said late last week when we caught up with him after a morning walk-through practice.
And Crawford — the team’s seventh-round selection out of SMU — has had a strong showing in training camp so far, showing just how bad he wants to claim that eventual title.
“I want to do whatever I can to help us with a championship this year,” Crawford said. “That’s my mindset. Coach Shanahan, when we talked about it before he drafted me, I told him that’s what I’m here to do.”

The Story Behind Those #RG3 Sign Guys
Posted by on August 6, 2012 – 1:31 pmYou saw them on the Redskins Twitter account on draft night. You saw them when the NFL Network and ESPN panned the crowd at Radio City Music Hall. You saw them the next morning on the front page of the Washington Post. You’ve now seen them again at Redskins Training Camp.
Just who the HTTR are the guys with the #RG3 signs?
Meet the two sets of brothers, who also happen to be cousins: Phillip LeMaster, 15 (#), John Rader, 17 (R), Jordan LeMaster, 16 (G), and Andrew Rader, 19 (3). Apparently the Rader brothers are the creative genius behind the social-media-turned-real-world signs, but needed the LeMasters for execution.
“We found out we were gonna go to the draft in New York–the first time we’ve ever been to the draft,” Andrew said. ”We always like getting on TV, ’cause we’re kids, I guess, so we decided to make these signs.”
I can appreciate the self-promotional honesty. Read more »

Sid Celebrates 80 Years With His Redskins
Posted by on August 6, 2012 – 10:39 amFor exactly as long as Sid Brannon has been alive, so has the Redskins’ franchise.
Sid turned 80 years young on Saturday, and his daughter, Lisa, and granddaughter, Kristen, drove up from Petersburg, Va. to Sid’s home in Manassas, to take him to his first ever training camp practice.
“We’re all Redskins fans, and always have been,” Sid said. ”You see where my hat came from?”
Sid was wearing a snapback Redskins hat from several decades past. It had an old-school Redskins Indian-head emblem on it, and pinned to the side of the hat was a Redskins’ 1987 Super Bowl Championship pin.
A retro Redskins’ hat was just the proverbial tip of Sid’s fanhood iceberg. It turns out that Sid was a Metro employee for 36 years in Washington, and drove the charter buses to the Redskins’ games at DC/Griffith/RFK Stadium. Read more »

Posted by on August 6, 2012 – 10:15 amWashington Redskins’ wide receiver Leonard Hankerson was able to spread a little hope to some fans at Saturday’s training camp practice.
You probably remember the back story behind the second-year receiver’s “Hope Is Alive Today” drive, but if not, here’s a reminder.
