Help Area Children With Backpack Drive

Want to join Redskins players like running back Alfred Morris in a drive aimed at helping area homeless children achieve in school?
Who wouldn’t?
This effort, Operation Backpack 2012, is a combined effort by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and Volunteers of America Chesapeake that collects and distributes the backpacks filled with school supplies to children living in Volunteers of America Chesapeake homeless shelters throughout the Washington D.C. metro area.
Donating to the cause is easy.
Operation Backpack 2012 will begin in late July and run through the first week of September. Fans can donate backpacks, school supplies or make monetary donations at collections at the following Redskins events and locations:
- Washington Redskins Training Camp Presented by RE/MAX (click here for the training camp schedule/guidelines)
- The Redskins’ home preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29.
- Volunteers of America Chesapeake administrative office at 7901 Annapolis Road, Lanham, Md., 20706
Fans who donate to Operation Backpack 2012 at training camp or at the first preseason game will also be automatically entered to win Redskins prizes.
Morris, a rookie, is already getting into the local charity scene. He tweeted this today:
