Washington Redskins’ rookie guard/center Josh LeRibeus on Wednesday became the final rookie to sign his contract with the team, just hours after first-round pick and quarterback Robert Griffin III inked his deal.
If you’ve been following LeRibeus since he was drafted by the Redskins with the 71st overall selection in April’s NFL Draft, you know he’s a colorful character (in a good way) and seems to be a lot of fun to be around.
After all, as mentioned just yesterday on the Redskins Blog, LeRibeus once referred to his recent weight loss as losing “a toddler off the side of my belly.” The Southern Methodist University product also has an apparent obsession with seafood.
But don’t get LeRibeus wrong: As much as he seems like a cool guy (just look at his picture up there — don’t you want to just treat him to dinner??), he also is looked at as an ideal part of coach Mike Shanahan‘s zone blocking scheme.
LeRibeus, who says he plays with “a lot of strength and aggression,” said he loves coming out of the three-point stance as a lineman and “just exploding off the ball.”
The Texas native is also on the record as saying he doesn’t quite like the Dallas Cowboys.
“No. Definitely not,” LeRibeus told reporters shortly after being drafted. “I’m one of those, ‘you either hate them or you love them’ and I’m definitely one that hates them, so don’t worry.”
So congratulations to Josh, and welcome to the team.
