Ryan Kerrigan: The Next Ron Burgundy?

Posted by Andrew Walker on July 17, 2012 – 4:22 pm

If you’re like me, you’re impatiently awaiting the release of Anchorman 2, starring Will Ferrell as popular West Coast anchor Ron Burgundy.

But if it’s hilarity from the TV studio that you crave, look no further than Redskins’ outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan’s scheduled performance tomorrow on Geico Comcast SportsNet Central.

Kerrigan — who can, and commonly does, recite almost every line from the original Anchorman — is scheduled to be the show’s guest anchor alongside Chick Hernandez at 6 p.m. (EST).

Kerrigan was on the set today going over the basics of reading news script with industry veterans like Larry Duvall, producer for Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.

The second-year outside linebacker from Purdue said he has considered getting into the world of sports TV after his football career comes to an end.

So is it fair to say that tomorrow’s show is Kerrigan’s make or break moment in TV?

Will he be a dud? Or will he perform like he did in his first game for the Redskins — pick off an Eli Manning pass and return it to the house to lead his team to victory?

Only time will tell.

Good luck with this one, Chick. Just make sure the teleprompter has everything written correctly, or else we might be hearing, “I’m Ryan Kerrigan?”

Here’s a few shots of Kerrigan on the set today (courtesy of the Redskins’ Daniel Sampson):
