He already received the Heisman Trophy award, given annually to college football’s best overall player.
And now Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III has been awarded an ESPY Award as the “Best Male College Athlete.”
At least that’s what the rookie quarterback tweeted early Wednesday evening, prior to the 9 p.m. (EST) showing of the annual ESPN awards show.
Griffin tweeted this around 8 p.m. Wednesday:
Griffin III and fellow rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins were each nominated for ESPYs. Griffin was nominated for “Best Breakthrough Athlete” and “Best Male College Athlete,” while Cousins — the Redskins’ fourth-round pick in April’s NFL Draft — was nominated alongside former Michigan State teammate Keith Nichol for the “Best Play” category.
(Nichol was on the receiving end of Cousins’ 44-yard, game-winning, deflected Hail Mary pass that gave the Spartans a 37-31 win over Wisconsin last October.)
If it turns out Griffin III or Cousins won their respective other categories, we’ll have it here on Redskins.com.
But congratulations to Robert for this terrific accomplishment.
