First Ladies Give IKE Proper Send Off

Posted by Andrew Walker on June 19, 2012 – 11:50 am

For the second time in about two weeks on Monday, the Redskins were well-represented at the Norfolk (Va.) Naval Station.

This time around, the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders were on hand for a special visit.

The First Ladies of Football on Monday were visiting those on board the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (or “IKE”) before the ship deploys to the Persian Gulf.

The IKE — known as “the Navy’s Finest 5-Star Aircraft Carrier” — was launched in October 1975 and is named after the 34th President of the United States.

The Redskins were also at the Norfolk Naval Station June 7 for that leg of the Redskins’ 80th Anniversary Thank You Tour. The group that day was honored to be invited aboard the destroyer class U.S.S. Mahan, which had recently returned from a mission off the coast of Africa.

We will always remain grateful for those men and women who defend our freedoms and keep us safe.

Here’s a cool video (via vbagate) of the IKE in action:

Hey I was stationed on there from 99-03… We got the Dallas’s cheerleaders before our Med Cruise. Needless to say I didn’t even bother to go out and see them! HTTR!
