‘Sky’s The Limit’ For Kerrigan in 2nd Year

After a rookie season in which he totaled 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, intercepted an Eli Manning pass and returned it for a touchdown and played every defensive snap the entire year, Redskins’ fans are excited about the potential of outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan as he heads into Year 2.

And you’re apparently not alone.

Dan Graziano, who writes the NFC East Blog for ESPN.com, said today in his “Blogger Blitz” video that he expects Kerrigan to have the most impact among second-year players in the division.

“(Kerrigan) was an absolute terror in the pass rush with no training at all, basically, at the NFL level,” Graziano said. “(He) didn’t struggle with the transition from 4-3 defensive end that he played in college to 3-4 outside linebacker in the pros. And now, given a full offseason to prepare and learn and refine his game at the pro level, I think the sky’s the limit for Kerrigan. I think you could see him take a huge step forward as far as his pash rush production, as well as other aspects of his game like run support, and I think he’s going to be a key element to continued improvement in one of the better and more underrated defensive front-sevens in the NFL.”

Graziano also listed Philadelphia Eagles’ safety Jaiquawn Jarrett, Dallas Cowboys’ linebacker Bruce Carter and New York Giants’ offensive tackle James Brewer as other second-year players hoping to make a big splash in 2012 — none of which compared to Kerrigan, the Redskins’ first-round pick in 2011, however.

Here’s the link to today’s “Blogger Blitz” video by Graziano.
