The greatest fans in the National Football League will have a unique two-month-long opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal look at their Washington Redskins.
The Redskins’ 80th Anniversary Thank You Tour — which brings players, coaches, cheerleaders and Redskins personnel to fan-friendly pep rallies across the region — begins Thursday with three events in Winchester, Va., just one of at least 12 stops the 80th Anniversary Bus will be making through July 20.
Thursday’s event in Winchester is certain to give fans a good idea of how the rest of the tour will shape up. It begins at noon with an event at the Winchester Rotary Luncheon, then moves to NW Works at 1:30 p.m. to visit with the company’s staff and clients before wrapping up from 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. with an event at the Handley High School football stadium.
The event at Handley High School is free and open to the public.
“This is special — this is a one and only tour and they chose to start in Winchester,” Russ Potts, executive director of the Winchester Education Foundation, told The Winchester Star May 19. “This is very prestigious because they obviously want to be at a place where they know they’re going to receive a warm and welcome reception.”
Currently planning on making the trip Thursday are Redskins greats Pat Fischer, Sam Huff and Mark Moseley, Redskins’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Bruce Allen, as well as the Redskins’ cheerleaders.
“We’re very honored that Winchester has invited us to kick off the 80th Anniversary Tour,” Allen said in a press release. “Thousands of Redskins fans will be on hand throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C., and we’re delighted that Winchester will be the first stop.”
