Several area businessmen and businesswomen ditched their suits Friday afternoon to try their hand at becoming a member of the Washington Redskins.
The 2012 Washington Redskins Player For A Day program gave participants a chance to sign a one-day contract with the team and go through three stations with current and former Redskins players at Redskins Park.
Manning the weight room was outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. Doing drills on the field were Pierre Garcon and former Redskins great Antwaan Randle El. And, finally, in charge of team meetings and film study was Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for several participants, including Jon Harris, a lifelong Redskins fan who was making his first trip to Redskins Park to take part in Friday’s Player For A Day program.
“I grew up in this area, so I’ve always followed the team in the good times and the bad,” said Harris, who works at BRTRC in Fairfax, Va. “I jumped at the opportunity to come out and see the park and the complex and hopefully meet some of the guys and have a good time today.”
Harris said he grew up idolizing Redskins’ legends like John Riggins, Art Monk and Darrell Green, and he is currently a big London Fletcher fan.
“This was obviously a special opportunity, so I thought I’d come out here and enjoy myself,” Harris said. “I’ve definitely never done anything like this, and I was hoping that this would be quite an experience.”
