Jordan Bernstine’s Got Hops

Understatement of the year: Redskins’ rookie safety Jordan Bernstine can jump much, much higher than me — and probably much higher than you, too.

The Iowa product was selected by the Redskins with their final pick (217th overall) in last month’s NFL Draft.

The photo above, courtesy of BlackHeartGoldPants.com, gives you a really good at just how high Bernstine can fly.

His vertical leap has been measured at 41 inches, and, as the Redskins’ Brian Tinsman reports, the 5-11, 205-pound Bernstine definitely has the look of an ideal NFL safety.

I’m looking forward to seeing what this athlete can do on the field here at Redskins Park.

Here’s a video of a Bob Sanders-esque hit Bernstine delivered last season at Iowa:

Excellent comparison to Bob Sanders. This big-hitting safety out of Iowa (Sander’s Amma Matre) has a lot of similarities to the former defensive player of the year. Just hopefully health isn’t one. If the Redskins can find a way to to keep Bernstine healthy with more longevity than poor ole’ Bob, they may have stolen a future Pro Bowler late in the draft. My one concern with the article is that Andrew Walker is underselling his own leaping ability. -Dan

How about that nasty block on the punt return!? Bernstine looks tough.
