“Hard Knocks,” the popular HBO show that gives unprecedented looks into the daily ongoings of National Football League franchises, will definitely not be filming the Redskins in 2012, head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Wednesday.
Shanahan talked about the potential issues of appearing on the show Wednesday with Mike Florio of NBC’s Pro Football Talk Live.
Shanahan said the show’s producers approached him about filming the Denver Broncos in 1995, during his first season as the team’s head coach.
“I just didn’t feel comfortable with being in that situation,” Shanhan told Florio via phone interview.
Shanahan was candid about the presence of cameras in the locker room, on the practice field and in the coaches’ offices — a feature of “Hard Knocks” that has contributed to its success.
“I can’t be myself; I don’t think coaches can be (themselves),” Shanahan said.”I like players to concentrate on their jobs – I don’t know if that’s old school or what. For me, I just didn’t feel comfortable with that atmosphere.”
Shanahan told Florio that the show’s producers have not approached him about filming the Redskins this season.
