Even though Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan couldn’t be at FedExField this afternoon for the Draft Day party (he’s a little bit busy in the Redskins War Room), he was able to treat fans at FedExField to a special message from Redskins Park.
After his Thursday night selection of quarterback Robert Griffin III, that smile on his face might be permanent.
[Editor's Note: Coach Shanahan chose a poor time to be soft-spoken. It translated well to the crowd in the stadium, but not on the audio here. Transcript follows the video.]
Thanks for being here today. We’re looking forward to the draft today, with picks in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh rounds. We’re looking forward to a good day and adding some guys to our football team, and I know you guys are excited to see the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, Robert Griffin III.
We’ve had a chance to spend some time together, and I’m looking forward to getting him in here and getting a chance to know him. He’s going to have a great career here, and I’m looking forward to getting started.
Anyway, thanks for being here today and Hail to the Redskins!

That was a kind of half-hearted HTTR, if you ask me.
