The Redskins have done a lot to address defensive roster needs, but it is the return of London Fletcher that brings a sense of finality to the offseason process on defense.
Fletcher announced the news on Friday afternoon, giving his fans good reason to enjoy their weekends. He even paid homage to the #Resign59 Twitter campaign that was embraced by fans and teammates alike:

Defensive teammates like Adam Carriker, Josh Wilson and Brian Orakpo were particularly outspoken in their support of re-signing the captain, and were pumped about Friday’s news:

Fletcher, soon to be 37, is coming off one of his finest seasons in the NFL, but was allowed to hit the free agent market after his third-consecutive Pro Bowl appearance. Even though he led the NFL in tackles, it was difficult to gauge the value of such a seasoned veteran.
Credit all sides for getting this deal done. Fletcher wanted to come back. Head coach Mike Shanahan wanted him back. General manager Bruce Allen said he would make it happen. And now it’s done.
At last check, the Redskins have added a plethora of defensive backs, re-signed stalwart defensive end Adam Carriker, and now brought back the team patriarch in Fletcher. With so many moves to shore up the defensive side of the ball, the Redskins will have the opportunity to address glaring needs on offense in the NFL Draft, now just 10 days away.
Here’s an awesome tribute to Fletcher, via Son Of Washington. Operation #Resign59 is now complete:

Really if a player like DONT’A Hightower falls in our lap at #69 you gotta’ take him no matter what the team needs are. Unless we can trade up for less value than estimated and grab him. Or trade back for another pick if no one is there of value without a reach, or that could help the team immediately.
