With 13 days to go before the start of the 2012 NFL Draft, experts are already drawing unfair comparisons between players and handing out premature accolades to draft prospects.

‘Tis the season, after all.

In a recent discussion of the NFL’s “most cerebral” quarterbacks, Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com made the argument that some signal callers in the NFL held a distinct intellectual advantage over their peers.  It isn’t scientific or formulaic in nature, but the players generally considered to be the best are being called the “most cerebral.”

The list includes the Broncos’ Peyton Manning, the Saints’ Drew Brees and the Patriots’ Tom Brady.  Rosenthal gives credit to up-and-comers like the Bills’ Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers and the Bengals’ Andy Dalton.  It even throws Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger under the bus for failing to make the list.

But it also includes the name of one soon-to-be NFL quarterback who is already considered to be among the NFL’s “most cerebral.”  Whatever that means: Read more »

Coach Gibbs Still A Proud Redskins Fans

There’s a lot of talk in the NFL about how the sport is a business, and that players and coaches are little more than businessmen with athleticism and flair.  While that may ring true for some, the greatest players and coaches have an incredible passion for the game, no matter where life may take them.

And it was being a lifelong Redskins fan, who still gets excited for his old team.

Gibbs was at Redskins Park earlier this week and caught up with Redskins Nation’s Larry Michael to discuss what he’s been up to, and what he’s most excited to see about the Redskins for next season (via CSN Washington): Read more »

Jackson Brings The Hammer To Secondary

Posted by Brian Tinsman on April 13, 2012 – 3:31 pm

Tanard Jackson signs his new contract at Redskins Park on Friday morning.

After inconsistent play at the back end of the Redskins’ secondary last season, the team made the decision to go in a new direction for 2012.  With the additions of Brandon Meriweather, Madieu Williams and now Tanard Jackson, the Redskins are set to have revamped talent and depth at safety next season.

Jackson, 26, comes to the Redskins after being released by the Buccaneers earlier this week.  In Washington, Jackson has an ardent supporter in defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, who was his head coach in Tampa Bay.  Jackson also becomes the latest of a growing list of Redskins that hail from the DC-Maryland-Virginia area, having grown up in Potomac, Md.

Jackson brings a scary presence to the Redskins’ secondary, and matches the fearsome playmaker that defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is seeking.  Here are a few of his highlight hits in recent seasons: Read more »
