Not many players dress up in three-piece suits to sign a new contract with their football team. Not many players are as excited to come back as defensive end Adam Carriker:
The last several times I spoke to defensive end Adam Carriker before free agency, I always asked if he thought he was coming back to D.C.? And his answer was always the same: I want to, but I just don’t know yet.
But in the early hours of free agency last Tuesday, the Redskins made the push to finish the deal and bring back an important piece to the defensive line. Now that he’s been back, he has filled his amazing Twitter account with all kinds of employer enthusiasm:
Redskins teammates matched his excitement, and took to their keyboards with congratulations. One such player with reason to give thanks is right-side edge rusher Ryan Kerrigan, who teamed up with Carriker for 119 tackles and 13 sacks in 2011:
He got respect from the rest of his fellow defenders, who are excited about the look of the team’s front-seven:
And even got some love from his offensive teammates:
Carriker’s signing is a popular decision in the locker room, and fills a major question mark on the defensive line. Even if Jarvis Jenkins comes back at full strength (ACL tear) and develops into a top lineman, the Redskins will have the roster depth that head coach Mike Shanahan listed as a priority this offseason.
