Bowen Welcomes Offensive Upgrades

Redskins defensive end Stephen Bowen made the unfortunate mistake of venturing outside during free agency.  He’s a brave man.

As you well know, outside of your house is where reporters are.  When something happens to your team, those reporters turn to you for comment.  Ready, set, sound byte!

But Bowen played the comment game well on Tuesday night, when asked for his thoughts on Pierre Garçon becoming the newest member of the Redskins.

Insert praise, give yourself an out if the report is wrong, and welcome him to town with open arms (via CSN Washington):

And Bowen should be excited.

During the first four games of the season, the Redskins led the NFL in offensive time of possession and had a 3-1 record.  With injuries and ineffectiveness, that time steadily declined throughout the season, and the defense spent a lot of time on the field.

Bring in more firepower and get Bowen and company more rest on the sidelines.

As far as career games against Dallas, Garçon suited up only once against Big D, in a tragically losing effort.  But Garçon did well in the game, catching eight passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.  He also added the longest rush of his career for 11 yards.

So Bowen has seen firsthand how much of an offensive weapon Garçon can be.  It’s good to be wearing the same jersey now.

I have been a lifelong Skins fan while growing up in NY. I have suffered and stressed during the last 20 years, very rarely tasting much joy. I am excited for this upcoming season, Shanahan at least tries to make moves. Life is a gamble, so is football. IF RGIII is anything near his hype we have a winner. Free agency going well, so the draft can still address depth needs rather than holes.

The Skins biggest Free Agent signing needs to be London Fletcher. If that doesn’t happen I see this free agency signing period as a failure. The defense will not operate well without the veteran direction of London. He needs to be there to play and also help groom a replacement in the next 2-3 years.
