Posted by on March 12, 2012 – 3:43 pmThe NFL has announced that Redskins John Beck, Lorenzo Alexander, Josh Wilson and Will Montgomery will be four of the 66 players enrolling in the league’s MBA program this spring.
Beck and Montgomery will enroll in a program at the Harvard Business School from March 19-23, with an additional three-day session in early April. The Harvard program focuses on developing a business plan in investments, real estate and retailing, among other areas.
Alexander and Wilson will take classes at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management from April 1-5. where they will focus on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, investing, negotiating and marketing. Northwestern’s program is dedicated toward “entrepreneurship, underscoring the fundamentals of investing and how to create and finance new ventures,” according to the NFL’s release.
Redskins offensive lineman Tyler Polumbus was enrolled in the program with quarterback Drew Brees in 2009. Former Redskins kicker Nick Novak is also involved this season, via the San Diego Chargers.
“We are excited to continue this program which has been beneficial to so many of our players,” said NFL Vice President of Player Engagement Troy Vincent, who has attended each of the business management programs. “Over the years, the Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program has assisted players — myself included — and their families in making smarter business decisions while inspiring others to go back to school for an MBA.”
Players complete an application process in order to attend the NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program. Enrollment criteria includes level of education; professional business experience; interest in starting, owning, or managing a business; and leadership and community involvement.
Under the new NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, players may be reimbursed for up to $15,000 this year for education expenses at an accredited institution of higher learning.
More than 700 players have participated in the program since its inception in 2005.
