Redskins’ Huskers Celebrate 2012 Pro Day
Posted by on March 9, 2012 – 3:40 pmIt’s been a year ago, almost to the day, that three members of the Nebraska Cornhuskers solidified themselves on the Redskins’ Draft boards with their efforts at the school’s Pro Day. A mere seven weeks later, Roy Helu, DeJon Gomes and Niles Paul were called with successive Redskins picks, quadrupling the Nebraska presence on the team (Adam Carriker).
Yesterday was the 2012 Pro Day in Lincoln, Neb., and although none of the Redskins’ players were in attendance, it was definitely on the minds and fingertips of the two that use Twitter.
Paul tweeted his best wishes to his former Big Red teammates, sending good vibes to the NFL-hopefuls:
S/o to all my boys chasing their dreams at Nebraska's pro day today!—
Niles Paul (@Niles_Paul) March 08, 2012
And it worked.
According to reports on CBSSports.com, the defensive star of the day was defensive end Jared Crick, who pumped 26 reps on the bench press. This was a big step for Crick, who lost all of the 2011 season to a torn pectoral muscle.
Receiver Brandon Kinnie measured in at 6-4, 218 pounds and ran an electronically-times 4.41 40, making him instantly intriguing to receiver-hungry teams.
However, the man that stole the show was wildcard athlete (running back-turned-wide-receiver-turned-cornerback) Marcus Mendoza. Mendoza reportedly put up absurd numbers, with a 4.37 40, 45.5-inch vertical and 11-1 broad jump.
Wow.
If it stands, his vertical crushes the best mark at the Combine (43.5 inches), and shatters his previous Nebraska school record of 42 inches. The only difficulty for prospective teams should be figuring out where to put him in the lineup.
Not surprisingly, all of these numbers drew praise from the Redskins’ Huskers, who tweeted their support for Kinnie, Mendoza and company (Roy Helu does not use social media, sorry folks):
Just got word of some the times posted at Nebraskas pro day & all I can say is WOW!—

S/o to them duck feet of @BKinnie84 was moving today I heard. Congrats bro—

Last April, the Redskins made a rare run at one school on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, and it paid off with quality production from each of the three selections. Each of the three players praised their preparation at Nebraska for getting them ready for the pros.
Do you think the Redskins will binge on Huskers again in 2012?

Might want to mention that the REDSKINS just gave up the house for RG3. TWO firsts in ’13,’14, and our #2 this year which in an abnormally good draft is like a low #1 in others.

I just wish it would stop getting reported by just about every media outlet that the Skins gave up 3 number ones and a two. The first number one is a swap. .
