Graham Gano’s Historically-Significant Leg

Late last week, the Redskins announced that they had tendered a contract to kicker Graham Gano, bringing him back for a fourth season in Washington.

The ‘Graham-Champion’ of a brief kicking competition with Shayne Graham in training camp, Gano improved on his 2010 numbers and accounted for a career-high 119 points.

Along the way, he also broke the franchise record for longest field goal, with a 59-yard boom from midfield against the 49ers at FedExField.  In an otherwise up-and-down year for the Redskins’ field goal team, everything came together on a perfect play, allowing Gano to do what he does best: crush kicks from downtown.

As the clock ticks down to the start of NFL free agency at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, it’s time for the lists to start rolling out. In the next 120 hours, the best, worst, fastest, tallest, sweatiest, hairiest and most-overrated free agent lists will be compiled.

Thanks to a recent blog post at NFL.com, we can already report on the most-underrated prospective free agents.  Highlighting the list is current Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker, along with another familiar face from bygone Redskins teams.

Here’s the scoop on why neither player has made a buzz this offseason, but may be worthy of a second-look: Read more »

McShay 3.0 Has Redskins Picking O-Line

Much of the offseason speculation has revolved around the quarterback position.  Will the Redskins draft a quarterback high, low, or not at all?  Will they address the position in free agency?  I can confidently tell you that it will be some combination of both, or neither.

Isn’t the offseason fun?

Just as speculation of the Redskins’ interest in first-round quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Ryan Tannehill has grown in recent weeks, NFL draft experts have begun to consider other possibilities.

If the Redskins sign a starting quarterback in the coming weeks, or have their eye on a later-round guy, then there are certainly other areas of need.  ESPN’s Todd McShay followed this train of logic on his way to Iowa offensive tackle Riley Reiff: Read more »

Troy Vincent Gets Honored For Service

Posted by Brian Tinsman on March 8, 2012 – 10:41 am

Former NFL defensive back, current NFL Vice President of Player Engagement Troy Vincent is famous for many things: a captain, an NFLPA leader, a stud cornerback, and a consummate pro.

He is not, however, famous for being a Redskins player, unless you were to ask the 2006 Cowboys.  They probably remember him quite well.

Vincent was recently bestowed with the Jefferson Award, given for Outstanding Service by an athlete.  Now in its 40th year, the award has been likened to the Nobel prize for community service, and former winners include General Colin Powell, Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Day O’Connor and Peyton Manning.

I’m not sure how Powell, O’Connor and Oprah count as athletes, but I don’t make the rules. Read more »
