NFL.com ‘Grammy’ For Redskins Fan Video

Posted by Brian Tinsman on February 15, 2012 – 5:11 pm

Before we overdose on Redskins nostalgia, it’s worth a mention that NFL.com’s blogger Adam Rank got involved in Grammy-fever, nominating the Redskins’ 1986 video “Thanks To The 12th Man” for Worst Sports Video Ever By A Team.

The video faces some stiff competition from Da Bears’ “Super Bowl Shuffle,” the Dolphins’ “Can’t Touch Us”, the Cowboys’ “Christmas in Dallas,” the Bengals’ “Who Dey Rap,” the Seahawks’ “Locker Room Rock,” and the LA Rams’ “Let’s Ram It.”

What do each of these videos have in common?  They were each conceived, written, and produced in the 1980s, which explains…well, pretty much everything. Read more »

Green Covers Cowboys Cousin, Circa 1986

Posted by Brian Tinsman on February 15, 2012 – 4:23 pm

Continuing the coverage of Redskins great Darrell Green on his 52nd birthday, I ran across an article on Green in the Nov. 1995 issue of Sports Illustrated.

Fifty-two years ago on this day, Darrell Ray Green was born in Houston, Texas.  In honor of The Ageless Wonder’s birthday, I decided to take a peak in the old player file for No. 28.

Everyone remembers the good times in his two decades on the field in Washington: the seven Pro Bowls, the two Super Bowls and the 54 interceptions.  In a football sense, Green was an iconic Redskin and one of the greatest to ever take the field.

But if blogging had been around during the pinnacle of his career, he would also have been a constant source of content for his work off the field.  Green embraced his role as a playmaker on Sundays, while recognizing that he could make a greater difference on Tuesdays in the community.

Here’s a look back on the man that set the standard for great Redskins to follow: Read more »

Redskins Named In Top Free Agent Lists

Posted by Brian Tinsman on February 15, 2012 – 11:56 am

With the start of NFL free agency less than a month away (midnight, March 13), it’s time to start predicting which players are coming and going, and which will be sticking around.

Cue the obligatory ‘Top X-number Free Agents’ lists–because how else would we be able to compare a top-flight quarterback to a 4-3 defensive end?

The field of reliable football sources was limited to Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, and Pro Football Focus.  Four current Redskins were cited on any of the lists, and the rankings were sporadic at best.

Here is the rundown: Read more »
